Console Update

Shame I'm not in an appropriate jurisdiction..............
You obviously own a copy of Horizons, so are you OK with that or do you have some complaint? Did you somehow buy a copy of Odyssey for a console?

I'm sure many console players have vast game assets and materials with hundreds if not thousands of hours invested in the game.

With no means of transferring these assets from those player consoles to PC, they not only lost their investment in the cost of the game, they lost the hours invested, the tags gained, and all ARX purchases.

I think it would be very generous of Frontier to offer some bit of compensation for those so affected, to include a complementary copy of the game for PC, as well as any ARX assets associated with the console account.

Although I don't own a console, I would be extremely upset having lost both the monetary cost, as well as the personal investment in game time.
It wouldn't be any cost to them to do so.
Since it's really just a digital key, nothing else but a bit of manpower involved.
No physical copy to be shipped - No cost involved
Arx? Just a digital number. No cost involved
Assets? More of the same

If you'd do a database extract/import, then you'd be looking at some costs as you need someone to do it.
Then again, a witty database expert could do that with a script, no doubt, facilitating further migrations.

I don't own a console either, yet I still feel sorry for the console folks to be presented with the terrible news.

Your reasonable recommendation will fall on deaf ears. If the 95 pages of posts in here are any indication, it's that console gamers (pick one or more of the following):
-Can't be bothered to buy one
-Are absolutely appalled at the prospect of spending money (the horror!)
-Are literally destitute and can barely afford to eat or survive
-Cannot possibly see any reason, any reason at all, that owning a PC has any value beyond playing ED. Certainly not web surfing, word processing, education, communication, work, etc...

But watch em happily shell out hundreds for the next gen console system!
Dude, what is wrong with you?

Sorry, what is it you think that act says with respect to console owners and EDO?

On a side note, we aren't in the EU any more (sadly)

Bottom Hat posted this link earlier with regard to transfers...

IMO Frontier should change this policy in order to help console owners who want to move to PC. Although as I am not a game/software developer (a rarity amongst forum posters) I haven't got a clue how easy or difficult this is.

Perhaps no one still there can really handle Cobra anymore.
Maybe ED is a constant resource drain with respect to the F1 thing et cetera.
Maybe FD just wants this thing to end so they can move on.

A bit doomy, but if CMs start getting reassigned to other IPs, well, what can you say.

You would be better off asking them. All I know is that if anyone wants to move their account, now is the time shout out.

I would say that was premature, you wouldn't want your account moved using the existing method before they have had a chance to develop and install a better method.
I still think they should have held off this announcement until such a method was in place, but I realise the forumites seem to want to know what is happening inside FDev at least as fast as FDevs employees do.

Frontier as a console player I really appreciate the game you have created there is nothing else like Elite on consoles - I am a dedicated player with 1,O00's of hours invested - it's by far my favorite game - we would really appreciate a way for our console accounts for be transfered to PC - I would be willing and ready to purchase Odyssey on PC

What I meant was, get shouting about it. Put pressure on Frontier to move as much as possible across.

Maybe make a dedicated thread for this. That way all the like minded console owners should post in the one place (In my ******* dreams ;) )

A totally spurious reply which understands nothing about the current state of FD's strategic management disaster.

I'm typing on a computer. I've had the PC version of ED plus H since the releases and I went and replayed the game on PS4 after 6000+ hours on the PC. I still play games on the PC but I'm not of a mind to start up my PC Cmdr again just to please FD's accountants (who obviously can't do their job properly at all).

How about you showing some respect for console only players instead of judging them? Abjectly pathetic....

Greetings Commanders,

Elite Dangerous is a game close to my heart.

It’s no secret that Odyssey’s launch was less than ideal, including the need to split the PC/console player base to focus on a PC-only launch. Since Odyssey’s release in May 2021, we have worked tirelessly to improve the Odyssey experience on PC, and whilst we have made great progress there is still more to be done. We have been supporting the pre-Odyssey and post-Odyssey codebases since.

Over the last several months, we have been wrestling with the best way to move forward, and it is with a heavy heart we have decided to cancel all console development. We need to be able to move forward with the story of the game, and in order for us to do this we need to focus on a single codebase. Elite Dangerous will continue on console as it is now together with critical updates, but we will focus on new content updates on PC on the post-Odyssey codebase.

We appreciate this news is not what our console community were hoping for. This was not an easy decision to make, but it was made with the long-term future of Elite Dangerous in mind.
4,000 hours in on console. Elite has been with me on various platforms since a kid. If I have to go back to PC to continue to play the game I love, I will BUT please can we have a full transfer. At least grant us that opportunity and take away the hollow feeling.

Been around longer than you and even though I appreciate how carefully you Chose Your Words, Your View Doesn't Reflect the Greater Reality. There are many games that have done just that. Major isn't the same as majority, and while the console segment of the userbase is certainly not trivial it evidently isn't enough to warrant continued development. That sucks, but Xbox One & PS4 are last generation console tech, hardware moves on and there's also the fact that Elite as a franchise may be on one of your father's C64 discs, so it's roots are firm.

1.
Feel Free to Share some Old Stories then.

2.
Well Mate. If so many Games did this. Then give us some Examples.
Which Games have Abandoned a Major Part of their Playerbase by Closing their Servers, Wiping their Progess or Shut down Development for Console/OS with a Major Part of its Playerbase. And despite that Continued to be Alive and being Developed Actively to the Point of being Finished and Delivering the Promised Features and Upgrades?

3.
Well Mate. Thing is. PC might soon not warrant Continued Development either.
Thats the Point you know.

4.
Being Last Gen Consoles is frankly Irrelevant.
Playstation and Xbox tend to be Reverse Compatible. Which means the Code can be Adapted pretty readily.
And it would be fairly easy to just Release Future Versions like Odyssey for the Next Generation of the Respective Consoles.
Thus allowing Players to move on with these Games.
So that Argument is a NonStarter.

5.
Roots are Irrelevant to be Honest.
Sequels to Great Games can be Trash. And Entirely New Games can be Fantastic.
Especially if they are so far apart that the Dev Team is a Completely Different one to begin with.

Fallacy and a bit of an Out of Context Quote to be Honest.
My Post had a Bigger Explanation for a Reason.

Team Fortress 2 Halted Development. AFTER it was Finished and Fulfilled all its Promised Features.
There is no Advertisement for Team Fortress 2 Showing some sort of Future Developments to Sell the Game while Development was Stopped.

This is not the same for Elite Dangerous.
Elite Dangerous for Consoles has Halted Development while being Unfinished and not having Fulfilled the vast Majority of the Promised Features.
Worse. These Promised Features are still being Advertised for Elite Dangerous all over the Internet. Selling the Game despite it not even being Developed anymore for Console.

Pls. For a Proper Discussion. I would Ask you to Quote the Full Post. And not just Answer an Out of Context Passage of the Post.
