Console Update

This is bad. Like: real bad. We hoped we could see far less fragmentation in the future, but at this point... I am almost afraid to ask but... What about putting horizons and Odyssey players together on PC? Is that an abandoned feature too?
I think this is going to happen, just a game with some "barriers" to those who doesnt own the expansion, but all in the same world, this could be handled easily within PC.

Servers will remain on, you will still be able to play Horizons content.
A. For how long ?
B. Shared Universe still ?
C. Fleet Carrier support for consoles ?
D. Critical issues that have been pending on console for God knows how long ?
E. Community Goals ?
F. oh so many other items that this decision entails...

I came to the party late but damned if i haven't invested time and money into the game, as well as joining communities such as the Hull Seals to help people on the same platform and others, too.
I was specifically waiting for Elite to be launched onto consoles to decide to buy a new one.
I will refrain from venting my frustration and disappointment, however.

We are investigating potential options but we don't have anything to announce at present.
I think it would be very generous of Frontier to offer some bit of compensation for those so affected, to include a complementary copy of the game for PC, as well as any ARX assets associated with the console account.

Frontier, you have an API which can forward a PC/console player's status to third party sites.

With minimal coding effort, why not use the API to import a console player's current status onto a PC's account?

Possibly with a "second commander" account on the base game.

:( All I can say is,.. damn. First, we (console players) get cut off and isolated, led on by the deliberate and ridiculous lack of communication on this topic for almost a year, then we just get kicked aside and actually left behind, just as many had feared and speculated,... Damn. This is a very bad move

Funny how we seem to have forgotten how much criticism there was when FD announced console development originally and how it took away from the PC game.

We've come full circle

FDev, this is shambolic. 7 years of effort down the toilet. The only way you can rescue this situation is if you figure out a way of transferring everything from console to PC. Not just cash, but ranks, ships, equipment, unlocks.. everything. If you can abandon thousands of dedicated players, I'm sure you can port over their investment in your product.

If you still enjoy playing the game as it is today, it seems odd to stop playing a game that you enjoy. The question should really be 'why would you stop playing it?' It's a choice for the individual to make obviously, it just seems a bit like cutting your nose off to spite your face.

This is a shame for console players obviously, I never thought Odyssey would see the light of day on last gen consoles but I did think there was a reasonable chance of a version making it to the new gen.
Maybe you don't understand that we console players mainly were very patient for nearly a year, hoped that Frontier after some time to get EDO running, will work again on topics like broken BGS, balancing and grinding issues, new ships and other new content for EDH, not even talking about getting EDO on the console.

Allready today EDO e.g. is mutch more efficient for BGS as EDH. Frontier now says they will freeze EDH and wthey will not provide any upgrades (beside some essential fixes). I would not be surprised if they decouple the console with EDH completly from EDO BGS soon.

The player base for sure will signifficantly drop and then we can expect a complete shutdown of the EDH server maybe next year. As they did not thought about a transfer of accounts I expect there will come nothing. A free EDO license is not the point if I have to buy a gaming PC at first. The point is the endless effort to get tripple elite, to get all the ships and modules, the engeneers, etc. and the items that are limited only to successful CGs.

The mistake was to make the graphics looking too "obvious". Being a bit more creative even Macs and consoles could run it easy. I still think about Elite with a TRON like look with all sorts of glowing edges. But if I had to guess how the game will look like I would guess it would look like it currently does. -.-

Really sorry to hear this for all the console cmdrs.

It must have been a very difficult decision to make, but at least people can now move on.

With that said, I agree with what’s already been said about account transfers. The least that could be done is to help make things more viable for console cmdrs who want to move to PC and stay with the game.

Thank you for the update, Mr. Braben.

Sorry to learn this, let’s hope the way could change in some future plans!

In the meantime I’ll continuing provide effort on exploration on console universe.

A devoted console CMDR

Hi

So with this bad move regarding console players im gonna leave elite for good, is a ver but very bad move shows no consideration for console users that are playing the game since release (ps4), i was playing now the xbox version but now with this im gonna stop playing elite. With no ps5/Xbox series release (i dont know why since they are more powerfull machines) there is no way im gonna play this again. I dont have money to buy a pc to play elite.
