Right, tinfoil hat time.
They announced Odyssey's not coming to consoles.
They didn't say anything about Elite Dangerous 2 not coming to them tho...
Those who will quit playing over this, those who will continue on console, and those who will wish to transfer fully to PC
They gave this answer 8+ months ago about console release. So not to attack you or anyone but given the weight of the announcement, how was this not already part of the communication plan?
Sigh…help us help you all here please.
Many of us are hopeful to continue supporting the game on PC if that opportunity exists but only having credits transfer is not a meaningful solution.
FYI Can we learn the options for this with an existing PC account and separately for those without a PC account.

I'd like to keep going on console.
However, transferring the account to PC is not an unwelcome option.
Just catching up. What a blow! Not that I wanted to play Odyssey, I just wanted to know that ED had a long term future with me in it. Now it seems it has neither.
I'm playing ed on linux using wine since end of 2018. It's steadily gotten better, I have an old i7 2600k and a newish gtx 1660ti. At the moment I run EDH at 1920 ultra with 1.5x ss. It runs really well, but I suspect there is a problem with galactic phenomena as that looks really strange, and I also suspect that some threat indicators on the hub aren't working right (but those are used by the game very seldom). Apart from that it works great. I also run EDO at 1920 high settings no ss, but the fps aren't really there yet. It works, but fps are often a bit sluggish on foot..I might consider Steam/Proton as an option but does Elite have anti-cheat? If it does I'll not bother because I know they won't ever put effort to make it proton compatible if there ever were issues. I do not want to be left in the lurch again.
That is part of the console communication team workflow. Current timeframe for response is 8-9 months. So not to attack you or anyone but given the weight of the announcement, how was this not already part of the communication plan?
Hey, that's an improvement at least. That is part of the console communication team workflow. Current timeframe for response is 8-9 months.
Elite is coded half with assembler, something no other game studio would use, its the most difficult coding language in the planet, but also super powerful... game development is going more and more to Drag & Drop coding = almost anyone could make a game nowadays AND thats why Frontier has advantage to its competitors... we will see awesome stuff in the future from frontierI am only a old gamer, no experience with programming but I put the following suggestions up for others more informed than myself can educate me.
1. Dump the Cobra engine and go for something like Unreal 4 or 5 to drive the game. As it is the graphics engine that is causing the problem, revamp the game entirely. Call it Elite Dangerous Resurrection
2. Make a new version of the current game powered by Vulcan engine
Sorry if this makes me sound stupid but would like to hear what others think
Honestly, I am tired of this excuse. EVERY other game I play does this already. Fdev is just lazy/incompetent/cheap. Or some combination of the three.I'm no expert on this but it is likely that there is more to transferring the account from console to pc than just copying over the data - possibly some legal or contractual element similar to the one preventing cross play to keep data on a specific platform.
Those who are not satisfied with the state of things on consoles can buy the PC version of the odyssey.Factually incorrect. The original plan was an initial PC release and then I believe it was about a three month cycle to port to consoles. Unfortunately, the whole thing crashed into the ground on arrival and clearly has needed a lot more work to pull out of that impact crater than expected.
It's disappointing that the console release has been cancelled, but it's FDev's right to cancel the release if it just wasn't going to work (the console version of EDO wasn't being sold, so there wasn't an obligation attached, just an expectation). Regardless, the expectation set by FDev was that a console version of Elite Dangerous Odyssey was going to come, and that expectation has now been gone back on (by necessity, it seems). While it's good to finally have an answer at least, console players who are disappointed are well within their rights to be.
You forgot PP!ED2 confirmed! All platforms, high-def VR, and BGS updates!
So you're saying the XboxOne and PS4 logos in the reveal trailer meant "guess we could try, maybe".fdev never promised to release an odyssey on consoles. don't take "we'll try" to mean "we'll definitely do it!
The "one codebase" phrase was pretty clear, too."and it is with a heavy heart we have decided to cancel all console development."
That's pretty clear to me
Yes, meaning that they will maintain a PC Odyssey codebase and a console Horizons codebase. The "one codebase" phrase was pretty clear, too.
I knew there was something I missed! @Rubbernuke would be displeased! Oh, just got the imaginary word! PP updates incoming! You forgot PP!![]()
They certainly can. But right now, that essentially means paying for a save-wipe. And that assumes you have the necessary PC hardware to run it in the first place. Those who are not satisfied with the state of things on consoles can buy the PC version of the odyssey.
If these people don't like playing elite, they can go look for other projects.
