Console Update

The issue is mate that most PC players (and i include myself) see this as a positive move for the development of the game.
I honestly feel for console folks for whom this is a massive kick in the undercarriage as ive been through many games myself that have shut down after i have invested time and money.

I play on Xbox and, while this sucks, I have to agree that it is a positive move for PC players. If a/the storyline was being delayed hoping to bring consoles onboard only to realize they don't have the technical capabilities to port EDO to console, then the right move for the PC community is to remove that obstruction in order to move forward. Obviously not the decision any of us, including FDEV, wanted but here we are and the story can move on for PC.

My hope is that they'll keep consoles in the back of their minds and in a year to two that they would try again maybe with newer tools/techniques and consoles would be able to join a new story arc.

Don't forget the im leaving you for SC/NMS!!
The SC I don't get since you can only play it on PC, but NMS is the next best sandbox option that I've seen. Obviously, we still have access to Horizons and I plan to use that access for as long as I'm able, but without developer engagement, it's going to wither, especially with console cmdrs making the switch to PC and those that have, or will, leave. There'll be some of us around for as long as we're able.

Greetings Commanders,

Elite Dangerous is a game close to my heart.

It’s no secret that Odyssey’s launch was less than ideal, including the need to split the PC/console player base to focus on a PC-only launch. Since Odyssey’s release in May 2021, we have worked tirelessly to improve the Odyssey experience on PC, and whilst we have made great progress there is still more to be done. We have been supporting the pre-Odyssey and post-Odyssey codebases since.

Over the last several months, we have been wrestling with the best way to move forward, and it is with a heavy heart we have decided to cancel all console development. We need to be able to move forward with the story of the game, and in order for us to do this we need to focus on a single codebase. Elite Dangerous will continue on console as it is now together with critical updates, but we will focus on new content updates on PC on the post-Odyssey codebase.

We appreciate this news is not what our console community were hoping for. This was not an easy decision to make, but it was made with the long-term future of Elite Dangerous in mind.
Sad to hear that. Very disappointing.
Have played ED since its start on PS4 back in 2017.

And always supported it with countless playing hours, setting up an own active squadron/PMF/Discord etc.. Pulled in a lot of other people and supported them with knowledge and guidance.

Personally I won't transfer to PC.
Being cut off from current and future developments translates into a dead end street further down the road.

I hear and understand the constraints on the software development side.
However mid to long term FDev will lose console customers. Inevitably.

Well, I always had asked myself how long this game would be supported.
Was hoping for a longer period.
It was a great time.

The days on console sound like being counted suddenly.

As happy as I am about this decision being a PC player obviously, it was a huge mistake by Frontier to announce the development of Odyssey for multiple platforms. Others have failed miserably in their attempts, underestimating the required resources - manpower AND financial. Cyberpunk 2077 was a complete disaster on launch and will never recover from the massive hit it took. Rockstar, a giant in the gaming sector, delayed the PC release of GTA V by a year. AFAIK they didn't even announce a PC version of the game until they knew that this was actually doable. Creating huge expectations for gamers of other platforms isn't wise and will crush your fanbase in the end.
I've been playing Odyssey a lot recently, it has matured and improved significantly given the additional months of development and I'm looking forward to enjoying future updates/feature of the game. That said, I'm also willing to pay for major updates in the future.

Well I have no particular affinity to space games so I'll play any number of other games I have.

I'm adaptable.
Indeed, I'm adaptable outside of this one, and play all sorts of stuff including other online games, but Elite was my one constant. Played the original in the 1980s so was hoping it would remain my one constant. Guess I'm going full Ronin.

I head that is the new hot blonde that has moved in next door that everyone is lusting after.
I feel like it's going to end up a bit like this...man, I hope I'm wrong!
