Console Update

In the time since The Announcement and now, I've switched back to my old PC CMDR, and pretty much fully engineered everything I need to, Odyssey-wise. The Odyssey grind is by far a much more pleasant experience than the Horizon module engineers and guardian stuff (to the point I wouldn't even really call Odyssey content a grind, relatively), and I'm very happy with the on-foot gameplay and what it adds to the ED experience as a whole.

For that reason, I would strongly prefer to port my console CMDR over to PC and redo the Odyssey stuff than to go and finish off the ship module engineering and do the guardian stuff on the PC CMDR. But I'm happy for it to go either way tbh.

Either way, just waiting on Fdev now to let me know which of the two it's gonna be!

That’s interesting … since getting my PC CMDR up and running I’ve been finding the Odyssey grind far worse due to a total lack of RNG dropping any of the data I need to unlock the engineers. Salvage missions are kinda fun but very limited in loot and I’m not really interested in just murdering whole villages to steal their stuff. And even when I have … that RNG has screwed me over time and time again. The most fun content seems - for me - to be the CZs but they don’t reward you with anything that helps progress your character.

On the other hand, knowing exactly what I wanted to do on the ship front meant I was able to get G3/G4 engineered ships with some Guardian tech in my quicker time than my original progress on PlayStation

I find that as most of what I would need to engineer my on foot character for is missions and as I have little interest in missions on foot or in my ship buying upgraded kit from Pioneer has met those needs just fine.

I do realise that 90% of players are addicted to missions and horrified by that attitude.

Ah - I see. Yes, most of the on-foot content seems to be perfectly accessible using “lucky finds” at Pioneer supply shops.

I would really like some of the engineering features (auto-load weapons, larger mags, improved shields, etc) as QoL upgrades but the RNG - on data in particular - seems utterly ridiculous and consequently I have only one engineer unlocked and one engineering upgrade applied that wasn’t “pre-loaded” on purchased gear. And that’s only because a kindly CMDR in my squadron basically gave me the materials I needed. I have received precisely squat that I require to unlock the next engineer I want from any missions or random scavenging.

That's weird, I've taken 2 suits and 3 weapons from g3 to g5 and unlocked a couple of the engineers just from transport, salvage and restore missions and their updates. I also have most of the mats needed to mod the above as I want, I'll just have to put some more effort into the unlocking. Albeit this took a few months of on and off playing.

Yeh - just down to luck and playing enough I guess. I haven’t got a single Opinion Poll to drop from any download on any mission or random settlement nor seen them offered as mission rewards. There’s probably a certain system state that’s needed on some percentage of factions and then if you lean over on a Tuesday when opening the mission board … I don’t have time for that kinda rubbish any more!! 😂

SO EXCITED.. i just managed to preorder a ps5. Can't wait. Alright lets go...!

Oh wait :)

Apparently a ps5 is a 2070 equivalent.. so will be the most powerful gpu in my house.

Will be interesting to see how compatibility mode goes anyway.
Assuming the improved stability is a thing, you should get 60fps at 1080p using the PS4-Pro Quality mode.

Except unfortunately there have been a number of players who have reported that the game is somehow less stable on PS5 in busier systems (this is unique to Elite, so to anyone reading this don't worry if you experience this and think it's somehow a PS5 issue, it's not) and there's a bug which means PS4 pro quality mode doesn't work.

However, you are still getting 60 FPS and even with PS4 pro performance mode, you still have a big step up if your previous console was a standard PS4.

I clearly see some people on the PC side disconnected from reality. I understand your positivism and even your admiration for Frontier. I admire them after all I love the game, but we need to be real from the point of view of hits and misses. And in this Forum we have numerous comments from people who are not aware of the situation of the consoles, most of the comments in this topic are from people from the PC and that already shows a wrong trend about what should be addressed here.

I don't believe this is a real problem, but I do think that the way some have expressed themselves is terrible, discrediting the criticisms, desires and fears of console cmds.

Some will say you can play it via Ge Force Now.

However, the console already pays to play online and it would be more expensive to pay for a Geforce now just because Frontier did not have the affection and perhaps with all respect, the ability and tact to deal with its internal problems.

"Oh you have the Horizon it still runs well"

Let's be honest here. If it were the other way around this forum would be a real pandemonium. With only one difference, I don't think there would be as many players on the console side doing this disservice as some on the PC side do here.

Horizon is a great game, this is unanimous, but the problem lies in kicking us out of the party while some scream from inside "Outside there's the streetlight that illuminates better."

I made three threads on this forum alone and read a lot more than I wrote. So I've been noticing this, there will probably be numerous comments destroying this post of mine from some of the PC CMDs. I honestly don't care.

But I make this reflection, the interest in the game is decreasing more and more every day. Much is said about the death of the game, on Youtube the views about the game are plummeting. And for the people who keep doing this disservice remember that ED is a service game, and without interest it will inevitably lose strength.

For the Frontier team I leave this message:

You made a work of art. That like mine, there are several hearts that love the unknown and the unexplored that loved to be entertained by ED. We are very disappointed in you. Yes this is the pure truth. But we know that every relationship has ups and downs and I'm sure I speak for many that if you reconsider, we'll all come back and praise the decision not to abandon the cmds that flew with you both from PC and consoles.

For those find SOME PC cmds that identified with what I wrote above. It helps a lot who doesn't get in the way, reading more and writing less is a virtue.
Everything you say is correct, but if I may, you don't seem to get the point: they won't change course. This is done. Period. And even if I understand the pain and I'm happy not to be a console player as I would definitely be unhappy too, it is objectively the best decision for the game. So the advice would be: move on and get a PC. Beause it's already settled. Now, Frontier HAS TO offer you all FULL AND FREE portage: that is the real issue, as it is outrageous that they even dare to suggest it is something that could be negociable...

Still no answers from the Frontier Devs themselves? Are they gonna spend another year before have an answer on imports our console progression to PC despite everyone here knew they are capable of doing that for a long time since someone linked their Xbox account to their PC and suddenly can access their Xbox ships and have same ranks.

How did they manage that?

IIRC, it was supposedly a bug and patched out by FDev. If that code is still the same, or if there are other reasons for the delay is unknown except to FDev. Since FDev is in silent mode again, all one can do is either to wait or to make some noise in the hope that it will hurry them up or influence them.

I would be VERY curious to see the "proof" which supports that extremely bold statement... A link please? A procedure?

The evidences is somewhere in this thread and other threads. They patched it out long time ago and said it was a "bug". Plenty of games with cross progression out there and Frontier said we can't do it. 😐
