Constant disconnects

Ok, I really like the game. But I am really starting to hate it because of the constant disconnects. I can run 3 eve online clients w/o a single disconnect, but Elite gives me disconnects all the ******* time. I'm currently, literally, somewhere in interstellar space mor than 50k Ls from anything. And every ******* time I enter FSD drive, I get kicked offline. Or, if I manage to get into FSD, the drop out kicks me offline. Or I get kicked offline mid flight between systems. In the 2ish days I've played this game, I have been disconnected 137 times (i've counted). I googled fixes, tried them. Reduced packet size, etc etc etc, but did it work? Note a snowballs chance in hell. So. I figured hmm. maybe my connection has gotten dodgy, so i shut Elite down and loaded up EVE, ran 3 clients for an hour w/o a single issue. Shut them down, loaded Elite, and couldn't even get in game due to Scarlett idiocy. Seriously. No other game I have played has been this much of a royal bloody pain in the ass with disconnects.

I'm out of ideas and google foo. Some suggestions might help. It's ONLY with this game. Nothing else has the DC issues. So it's NOT my internet, it's something to do with this game specifically.

Ok I have narrowed the issue down to specifically FSD/Supercruise. I left the game on all night sitting in a station and didn't have a disconnect. I undocked and changed headed to a different solar system and mid FSD jump, disconnected.

That means it's dying while trying to change/establish a new instance. I thought there was something about changing MTU size that helped with that.

I'm at the point of screaming at the top of my lungs in hate at this game. The launcher is slow to launch when I start it, takes about a minute and a half to launch, then to start the game takes easily a full 2-3 minutes, and then the disconnects, slow in game response to inputs, my utter inability to dogfight. Yaw, np, the rest? slow sluggish responses like I'm flying through thick sludge. Can't seem to keep enemies in sight, they always zip past me. Every fight I've fought, including the drones in the basic tutorial, have blown me up. Turning, sluggish. Can't figure out what keys are the actual inputs for movement accept q, e, w and s, a and d don't do anything except slide the ship right or left, which it resists and doesn't want to do. I'd use my X-box one controller, but it's fried, and I'm disabled, so buying a new one isn't exactly something I can do easily no matter how cheap it is.

At this point, I am in a major love hate relationship with this game, and I really really want to love it, but the frustrations are building to the point where I am going to end up throwing my monitor across the room in a rage. NOT gonna rage quit, I'll keep plugging at this, even if it's the last danged thing I do (I have leukemia, and it's not responding to treatment, so it may well BE the last game I play lol. No sympathy. My life has been good, so if it ends, I got no complaints), now back to the game. Into the breach. Damn the torpedoes, Avast ye rotten swine, at them lads! We'll shiver their hull plating, and all that.

Anyway. Gonna see if a friend of mine has an extra controller I can use till I have the chance to get a new one. We'll see.

From where I sit (stii, mostly guessing), that points towards problems with
  • your understanding of the controls. There's a manual linked at the top right of the Launcher. It's quite old, but the basic default control layout should still be ok. "Default" - you can plug in pretty much anything that identifies as HID or Game controller on USB, and map your ED controls to it (in game -> options -> controls). Follow Strontium Dog's description (stickied at the top of this forum) for renaming and backups.
  • possibly your machine. What framerate do you get (ctrl-F displays the frame rate in the bottom left on the screen)? ED is pretty demanding - just because other games work doesn't mean ED will.
  • possibly your expectations. Everybody complains about the training drones at first. Especially if/when they drop into one of the "advanced combat" scenarios.
  • possibly your network setup. ED relies on both servers and P2P connections. The servers are hosted in AWS, and have been known to be somewhat choosy when it comes to port usage or heavy loads on other Amazon services. Just because other games work doesn't mean ED has to. ED is different.
https://customersupport.frontier.co...360003580319-Error-Messages-and-Bug-Reporting has a list of common issues. If that doesn't help you, you really need to open a support ticket (link is down on the pages with the individual error descriptions).

Hang in there - it's worth it.

Have you tried restarting your router @Brenda Zephyr ? Also, are you using a VPN? (E D doesn't like some VPNs for some reason.)

As @Ashnak says, raise a support ticket at https://customersupport.frontier.co.uk/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=360000810960 and they will maybe have a quick solution for you. (No doubt they will be swamped after EDO launches next week so you might be in luck.)

One other thing (and it is in the list of faqs in Ashnak's link) - the only time I ever had network issues with E D was years ago and the MTU work-around cured that, it was easy to do and proved very successful - it might help.

Good luck

I'll check out your first suggestion.
75 FPS solid (v-synch)
I may have had expectations, but failing so utterly in combat wasn't one of them. EVERYTHING kills me.
As for my network, I have no choice where I am, and have to run off a Verizon based hotspot as I live in an RV, and am mobile frequently, so of course, nobody wants to sell me internet, and I sure as heck ain't paying satellite internet fees, which are outrageous.

Para Handy:

No router. Just a phone and computer, and they get restarted daily.
I already did the MTU fix, and it didn't help.
It may well be because I am forced to use a hotspot for internet.

So far since posting the semi-rant above, I've had the following:

Blue Cobra 4 times
Scarlett Krait once
Taupe Cobra once
And mission access is slow beyond belief.

Re: my hotspot, I get a solid 5 mb/s on download speed via steam, speed checks all show 5 mb/s down and 4 up. Connection doesn't SEEM to be my issue, but it could be because of being on a hotspot.

Dont play with MTU.. What ever you do, do not make it bigger!

You can only influence your MTU between pc and router. That is not where your problem is.

When there are actually connectivity issues then you tend to get people saying so. As they're not then you need to accept 'it's you'. Support is the place to go.

I can connect 3 eve clients w/o a single issue. FF14, no problem. SWTOR easy peasy, Star trek Online, yep works great, ESO.. no issues there. So if I can connect to all those other online games w/o a single problem, then if it's "me" with the issue, it's "me" with the issue because of how frontier does connections.

I already suspect it's an issue due to me being on a hotspot. But again, literally no other game I play has disconnection issues. So if I can connect to them perfectly fine, then it's def something to do with Elite not liking me being on a hotspot. Which I already said before. And if that is the case, then it IS how frontier handles internet connections.
The forum would be flooded with users reporting the same problem. This is not the case. You can keep denying....

You have two options OP :

1) Complain here and hope fdev can work out the issue and fix it in the game somehow. Very unlikely to get you in the game ever.
2) Support ticket. Currently a 48 hour response window. On Wednesday that will probably be over a week.

Your choice, I'm outta here, good luck!

I was hoping to get some potential ideas here on what I could check on, on my end, that might save me having to bug frontier about it, but I see that I am going to have to bug frontier about it. No biggie, I was just hoping to avoid doing that if I didn't have to. Anyway, thank you all for your suggestions and advice. This game is awesome when it stays connected and I love the hell out of it. So, support ticket it is. Thanks again for the advice.
