Constant disconnects

Theres no instant fix because ISP traffic shaping can be turned on and off with Load on networks with out telling users...
Sitting at a station can do very little data transfer from you and the AWS server farm ... Jumping does more data transfer this put load on the connection and this can trigger ISP or third party rented by ISP data traffic shaping, this drops packet data and drops the connection...

The PC version has a network traffic display enable option.. With a Key command turn it on... (ctrl +n) Edit =(ctrl+b) The client can do a lot of things with zero data to and from server, jumping is not one of them... Many things happen in game client ONLY and then update server after the process completes jumping is not one of them... it needs to fetch a lot more data...

Is ctrl+n supposed to show up in game? Or is it a log file? Because if it's supposed to show up in game, for me it doesn't at all. If it's a log file where would I find this at?

sorry controll Ctrl+b (bandwidth not network lol) shows overlay of bandwidth in game bottom Left...

Yep, that worked. I'm seeing good traffic, including data surges of 1600+ b/s etc. Seems fairly solid data transmission and recieving wise so far. I'll keep an eye on it and poke it with a stick when it slows down.

Next step is to jump and watch as no data is received during the jump...
Then borrow a proven wifi connection and then jump and see the next system data spike the received number on jump, and you make the jump fine...
Mobile data is being crippled as they suffer load and non Http protocol web browser data is get dumped from their network during load...

Did you pay for amobile sim card Gaming data plan...

Mobile data is very unreliable - he might be on an overcrowded node so he might get a very unreliable data stream.

A such connection would maybe work for a client-server app like Eve Online, but ED is really dependent on a stable connection

When i get to my favourite mountain cabin, i only get 3g mobile data there. I can barely play in solo and not even all the time.
Sometimes the connection is as bad that i cannot even mine - the fragments get stuck in the refinery...

At the same time, on the very same connection i can browse the forums and watch youtube (most of the time)

No router. Just a phone and computer, and they get restarted daily.
4G + CGNAT then.

Actually, try using a VPN to get around the traffic-shaping/violation in net neutrality those ISPs often exhibit. Make sure the VPN adapter is set as the network adapter to be used in Elite Dangerous in-game in the network settings menu.

I have unlimited (and expensive, hence prioritized) 4G data and sometimes have to use a VPN or flood the station with several thousands of little connections (i.e. BitTorrent) to "remind" it of my priority when speeds are slow or ping non-responsive.

If your SIM is eligible, get a REAL router such as a Fritzbox 6820. With this one, you can disable 800 and 900 MHz connections which are long-reach but slow and oversaturated. A poor 1800 MHz signal is usually WAY better than these.

So, are you using a mobile connection? like a 3g/4g or something like that?
4G LTE, verizon wireless phone with hotspot. It's literally my only option for internet.

Um... yer speaking a language I don't understand here. I'm not super savy when it comes to vpn's and phones etc. But I can cook you up a 5 star dinner w/o a problem. Fritzbox I think is a EU thing, as I only see it being sold there when I do a google. I'm in the US of jerks, er I mean USA. My sim is tied to my phone and not removable to another piece of equipment, and I can't afford to pay for a phone and another wireless internet connection unless they are tied together as I am on a VERY tight fixed income. Feel free to private message me here on the forums and go into more detail if you'd like. Thanks.

Okay, with the use of a router out of the way due to simlocking/eSIM-binding, your other option seems to be to use a VPN instead. There are several options, but the one I have good experience with is NordVPN. It's available for Android (don't know if it also bridges tethered connections) and PC.

If you decide to use NordVPN, make sure that in the Network settings menu the correct adapter is set:

(Nordlynx is the adapter NordVPN uses to tunnel data)

While NordVPN still won't grant you a dedicated IPv4 address (important for peer-to-peer instancing outside of Solo), it should handle changes in MTU much better than ED.

I think I have discovered the issue. I've been playing in solo mode, which is bandwidth light. My phone would decide that because there wasn't a constant talk back and forth between the computer and the game server, that I must obviously be done, and drops the connection. I switched to Open mode and had zero drops except when my wi-fi on my computer decided to randomly stop working, then switched to private and things are running just fine now. So it seem (so far) that the issue was the very small data usage of the game in solo mode causing the issue. We'll see how things go over the next few days. if that fixzes the issue, then done and done and happy me. If not. I'll drop a support ticket in and see what they can do for me.

solo mode sends tracking data with 50 bytes/sec to the AWS based adjudicators. All modes do this.

Your other solution is running a constant ping in the background to keep the connection alive.

Press WinKey+R, enter cmd. Inside this black box, enter ping www.google.com -4 -t
This command will send a ping package of 64 bytes (with 32 bytes payload) constantly until you close the window.

If your data amount is limited per month, i advise against playing in open or private.

I have unlimited data and hotspot data. I made sure of that after AT&T nailed me for $350 in data over use fees.

Ok, it was def solo mode. Since switching to Open/Private I haven't had a disconnect other than when my computer randomly decides to shut my wi-fi off. So at least for now, Problem solved. I'm in Private mode and playing just fine,. Once I figure combat out, I'll go full open mode all the time and it's game on. Thnk you everyone for your advice, information, and help (yes I use oxford commas, shush) lol.

I have had to use a hotspot in the past it did work though sadly not good enough for the data draw when its called for. I wouldn't game on anything less that 50MBs
the only other thing I can think of, it could be your dongle I bought a cheap one and it could only pull 7MB off my network. I purchased a more expensive one recently and that draws 300MB. not tested the draw on a mobile hotspot. £5 v £15 extra cost worth the draw
hope it helps :)

me bad should have read last post as well:eek:

Glad you found a solution but I'd also recommend looking at Starlink for people who can't get normal internet in remote areas. I had a buddy who this dramatically improved his ability to get net fast enough for online gaming and work:

I did, but on a fixed income, 100 bucks a month plus 500 initial for the equipment, is way out of my budget.
