Control bindings

Why would you swap controls to your controller? Can you not just bind the controller to the things you need it for in the same profile with the HOTAS?

I have alternate bindings for my CH setup for trade and for exploration - can switch the control bindings in-game with no issues. I also have a bindings file for using a Logitech stick instead of my CH Figherstick (still use the CH throttle) for RES stuff at CGs (I dont do combat otherwise) - I can plug in the logitech and switch control profiles all in-game. So I don't think there is a bug in the game but I run windo$e 7 and I know w10 had issues over USB devices - maybe that's a problem for some.

I've noticed in the past, if a controller is not registered when the game starts and that profile bindings is active from last session the bindings will be wiped! Used to have that issue with the X55 but that was a couple years back now, although this sounds like the same thing.

Do you have both controller systems plugged in when you start the game? or do you only plug the one HOTAS or Gamepad in at a time? If only one, as a workaround I would suggest to make sure you have both sets of controllers plugged in when starting the game, then choose your bindings file.

It really shouldn't work this way though, and likewise players shouldn't have to manually mess around with folders/files and renaming. Its a quality of life thing that Frontier should have addressed years ago!

Both HOTAS and controller are plugged in before i even launch the launcher.

The issue is getting really annoying.

All we need is the ability to save bindings files in game (this would also mean i can use my HOTAS for my xbox as i intended)

Wrote this a while back, you might find it useful ...

What I did (which works for me) was as follows. When I first tweaked my "custom" settings for my HOTAS I then found the modified "custom.binds" file and copied it to a new file called "Alec-Hotas.1.8.binds" (the "1.8" seems to be necessary).

I then edited that file in notepad and changed the "PresetName" value near the top to "Alec-Hotas".

From then on, "Alec-Hotas" appears as one of the presets in the control bindings drop-down and any changes I make to it within ED are written back to that modified file rather than to "custom.binds".

You can repeat this process to have more than one set of your own binding presets (for example, I have "Alec-Hotas" and "Alec-Oculus").

n.b. since writing that I think the "1.8" version number has changed, I think it's "2.0" now but you should be able to tell fairly easily when you get there.

Both binding files have already been setup correctly but the HOTAS one gets wiped if i change control schemes. If i then place the backup file in the bindings folder it gets wiped.
