One thing I can add. I've tried a number of Xbox-style controllers with ED (I'm on PC) and found that the low-cost clones just don't do it well due to one reason in particular:
for the D-pad, they all use a four-way rocking pad/switch. This (in my experience) is terrible when trying to switch PIPs in-game, especially when it counts and a mistake can mean the difference between staying in a combat situation or turning and running (or perhaps worse). Despite giving myself ample time (countless hours, in fact) to get accustomed to these and to learn muscle memory, it's too often the case that you get double actuation when trying to press just one direction on the D-pad. In ED this becomes really maddening.
I eventually spent more money and purchased a Razer Wolverine Tournament Edition controller. It employs four distinct switches for the D-pad. What a wonderful difference!
Added bonus: this controller has outlasted all of the other ones I tried by far. This is a wired version. I would hope that a controller with this arrangement is also available in a wireless version.
This was my experience. It was certainly on my list at the time however, one of the reasons I did not purchase a Microsoft Elite controller is that I couldn't figure out if the D-pad was "good" or "not good." I have also heard that the wireless adapter is the way to go with that controller (instead of Bluetooth).
Hope you enjoy the jump to PC!
