Hardware & Technical Controller config PAIN!!

I've been playing Elite Dangerous for the past few weeks with my newly purchased Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS X. I've spent much of this time configuring the controller, a lot of which is down to the fact that a lot of functions simply aren't mapped.

I fired it up today after installing the 1.04 update, however the controller was unplugged at the time. Now all my mappings are lost! I'm not sure if this is down to the update or if its down to the fact the controller wasn't plugged in when I booted up the game. I re-selected the flight stick and now everything is back to default settings.

It would be really handy if you could export or save your configuration within the game, or better still, store it as part of your online profile.

Once I've reconfigured everything, is there a way for me to backup these settings?

"Custom.binds" is the file you want to make a backup of. You can also rename it and the new name will then be shown in the pulldown menu of the game.

Custom binds are a bit of a pain frankly.

I'm surprised your lost your key mappings though.

I've left mine unpluged at switch on, then plugged in after. My settings have been intact.

It may simply be a problem with the update.

If your custom binds references a specific USB controller that then isn't there then it won't run and will default you back to the standard config. If you then make changes to that it will get saved over your previous custom binds (unless you manually rename the file to something else).

The log file in the same directory as the custom binds will say if a referenced device can't be found. You can also edit the (custom) binds file you are using directly to remove reference to the controller - you sometimes need to do this if you plug the same controller into a different USB socket and it picks up a different ID.

Need to pay attention to the format of the file though and follow the same structure as the rest of it.
