Controllers in Odyssey

I asked about this in December but it might have been to early for an answer.

I use a HOTAS to play In both flat screen and VR.

Has anyone got any idea what will be required in Odyssey.
I ask this as I cant or don't like Mouse and keyboard or a X box type controller.
I have a controller and will have to persevere with it if that the best way.
Fingers not working as well as they used to.

Ask us again after the 29th?
As it stands - as a serious answer, currently the game allows us to choose any control method we wish in game - I use HOTAS for everything currently and don't see that likely to be a forced change in an expansion.

...but, I'll be better informed once the alpha drops.

I was going to ask essentially the same question for AMA V, but that one never happened of course. My preference for anything first person is a combination of gamepad and mouse which theoretically should be possible given what ED already allows. Not long and I can find out for myself but maybe @Arthur Tolmie might have a minute to ask the dev team for us? bat eyelashes, bat eyelashes... 😙

I hope you can bind different control inputs from different sources to the same binding profile. So for example, you're flying your ship with the HOTAS, but when you get on foot, perhaps you switch to mouse and keyboard for on foot gameplay.

@Wrecked ED allows you to bind each function to two different buttons, as well as allowing bindings for different devices. The two side by side input fields are for binding that input to different buttons simultaneously.

Quite nice of FD to do that, I very much appreciate it.

Currently you can have any number of controllers mapped simultaniously. I can even map the 'extra' 2 buttons on my webcam to Elite flight controls if I want to!
I see no reason why Odyssey won't be the same and let you map any input to any action!
Yeah on the PC version you lucky devils.

The console versions are still restricted to one input device at a time which both incredibly lame and really needs addressing soon (I would really like to be able to use my keyboard for button binds).
It's really gonna suck if I have to keep changing which controller is plugged in every time I get in and out of my ship.

That, along with alpha access were a couple of the many reasons I got a decent PC instead of a PS5. Cost me twice as much but (with a few upgrades along the way) will last me twice as long!

Gaming podcasters predict that people will move to consoles + pc games will aim same 1060 for long (as ED do), because right now new video card costs 1.5x of everything else total inside pc.

Were aren't "lucky", we chose wisely.
Joooooiin uuuss

😉
I have neither the money nor the technical knowledge to keep up with modern PC gaming + there's not a chance I'm gonna start again from scratch on a new platform.

Consoles provide me with everything I want for gaming and I don't have to worry about minimum specs, I just wish that FDev would take advantage of the multi-input/keyboard & mouse support that Xbox added a while back. It's just sitting there waiting to be used.

Hopefully with the delay in the console release of Odyssey there'll be some time to focus on optimising the console versions and adding this support.

Not fully on topic but has there been any word regarding trackiR support for Odyssey's on foot gameplay?
