Controls broken in Steam VR

I just got this game and started it in Steam VR mode with the Quest 2, and none of the controls are working I had to manually close the game.
There is no response from the Quest controllers, mouse and keyboard, or my Xbox joystick.
Is this unplayable in VR? That's the whole reason that I bought it.

I'm in VR with twin virpil constellation alpha primes. They work 100%

Quest controllers will not work - but your m&kb or Xbox controller should. Is the game window in focus while you are playing the game in the Q2? (Make sure Elite is the active window by clicking inside it)

Yup, same here this evening for the first time.
Hotas wouldn’t work when selecting VR mode when starting in Steam.

So….

Tried starting VR Console First (the option that gives you the room with all your VR Programs on the wall) When it was up, I peeked under the VR Headset and selected Elite Dangerous on the Steam Menu, then selected VR Option.
Elite Dangerous started properly with the Hotas Working.
