General / Off-Topic Conversation thread: Favorite sci fi game, book or movie?

For me the best sci-fi from left to right:

Movie: Contact, Star Wars (3,4,5), Star Trek TNG all movies, 2001 (I have not yet seen Battlestar Galactica or Babylon 5)

Game: Half-Life 1 (by far the best game ever produced imo), Unreal 1, X-Wing, Star Craft 1, Ufo: Enemy Unknown (nowadays XCOM Enemy Unknown), FFE, Alpha Centauri

Book: Der Schwarm (Frank Schätzing), Dune (Frank Herbert), Mars (Ben Bova) (I havent yet read Asimov!)

Tv, was probably my first introduction to Sci-Fi; shows like Timeslip, Fireball XL5, Captain Scarlet, Thunderbirds, Joe 90, Doctor Who, Tomorrow People ('70's), Lost in Space, UFO, Space 1999, Martian Chronicles, Flash Gordon ('30's), Time Tunnel, Sapphire & Steel, Babylon 5, Firefly, Six Million Dollar Man, Bionic Woman ('70's & '00's), Gemini Man, Invisible Man (60's), Star Trek series, Stargate series, Star Cops & Blake's Seven. To name but a few, now films; Time Machine, Cat from Outer Space, Doctor Who & the Daleks, The Day the Earth Stood Still (50's), Journey to the Centre of the Earth, When Worlds Collide, This Island Earth, First Men in the Moon, Silent Running, Black Hole, Forbidden Planet, Planet of the Apes (70's), Blade Runner, Alien, 2001 a Space Odyssey, Enemy Mine, Stargate, & Last Star Fighter. Books; The Last Legionaire series, Horse Clans series, The Sphere, Foundation series, Journey to the Centre of the Earth, The Chrysalids, Tomorrow People series, Enders Game, Apprentice Adept series, Dune Chronicles, Neuromancer, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, Crystal Singer series, Contact, Dark Wheel & Outland. Computer games; Laser Squad, Elite, Syndicate, Star Trek (Point & Click), Tau Ceti, Mercenary, Blade Runner, Merchant of Venus & Deus Ex. RPG's; Cyberpunk, Star Trek, Judge Dredd, Mech Warrior, Traveller, Dark Heresy, Shadowrun, Firefly & SLA Industries.
What excites me about Sci-Fi, are the endless possibilities; exploring new worlds, aliens, evolution of man, technology, new life, space, time travel, new ways to look at earth.
My favourite part of Elite, is you can do whatever you like; explore, pirating, bounty hunting, mining, fight aliens & trading to name but a few.

Game: Elite. Book: Anything by Greg Egan. Film: 12 Monkeys.

There are, of course many things I would like to mention but then I would never stop editing the post... :)

When I were a kid?
Games: Original Elite (cliché but true) and Alien (yes the C64 game of the film)
Films: Aliens (the sequel), Silent Running, (Disney's) The Black Hole, Star Trek III (the Search For Spock), Akira
TV: Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rodgers, Transformers, Dr Who, Space 1999, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Stingray, Lost In Space, V
Books: V, Aliens, (there was a book about space vampires but I can't remember the title), some of the choose-your-own-adventure books by Steve Jackson & Ian Livingston

I know the OP didn't ask for TV, but as you can see I watched a lot of sci-fi TV as kid, I felt it was worth including

Most of the above.
Literature: 2000AD ( ABC warriors, Dredd, Rogue Trooper, Sam Slade ( Ted Danson would have make a great Film version), and Strontium Dog, most of the works by Larry Niven, Asimov, Del Rey, Fred Pohl (Gateway esp.), Doris Lessing and Frank Herbert ( 'Dragon in the sea' is a goodie), Ray Bradbury, this list could go one and on...
Films: Dark Star, Silent Running, Forbidden Planet to name a very small portion and Prometheus. ( only that 'cause I'm in the credits:D).
