corrosive cargo racks!! Do i need them ??

Good morning commanders.

I haven't visited a thargoid base as yet, and I'm thinking about doing it tonight. Id like, to do the light show (Star map) and make the machine go mad by putting the wrong items in it. My question is do i need the cargo racks (Anti corosive) to carry the items ? if i didnt use them would my ship get too much damage before i got to the base.??

Also what about the SRV. how long does it last with corrosive items in it?

Stay safe commanders o7.

The effect stacks so it can happen quickly. Usually the items eventually cause your cargo hatch to malfunction and eject your cargo. So you don't have to worry about losing your ship unless the cargo makes your FSD malfunction next to a star.

Where do you buy these cargo racks? - I've never seen them for sale (not that i've ever particularly gone looking for them, but it'd be nice to know where to look anyway) :) .

Now that Thargoids are "a thing", could Palin or whoever please release these for public purchase wherever anti-Thargoid weapons are sold... I mean, really, I can easily buy a "xeno this" and "xeno that", but I have to unlock an Engineer to get a glass-coated cargo rack?

Absurd.

This is a true statement in every way. Sell them racks to us Palin, ill pay double. Its a grind and a half to unlock him. Including that 5k jump from your starting point. But i want them so ill be doing it.

One quick question though. Could I do the base light map and collect the items keeping a module repair unit onboard ??

Yes you need corrosive resistance racks. All Thargoid items beside data and materials will eat your ship from the inside out.

No - you do not NEED them - how do you think players got along before they were introduced to the game?

That said - Thargoid items do have the capacity to degrade your ship and if you intend on carrying a lot around you would be best to do so because it makes sense. It depends on the amount you want to carry and the length of time you want to carry them for and how frequently you wish to do so.

from my experience, you do not need them unless you just want to carry them around for zengiggles. I collected 4 pieces of corrosive artifacts for the Palin mission you get at Obsidian Orbital, traveled the 120ish lyrs away to a Thargoid base, got them along with a dozen meta-alloys and came all the way back and suffered about 5% damage to my modules (no hull damage). Maybe it was the module reinforcement packages I had or maybe my Python was just that tough, I dunno, but the damage did not live up to the hype.

I don't know if the damage is on a timer, but it seemed to inflict a random 1% to a module everytime I instanced (jump from system, to supercruise, come out of supercruise at a station, etc...)

also, you should be able to by any module from any of the Engineers even if you haven't been given the invite yet.

Seems to be some mixed messages about this? i can do it ? i cant do it? i guess im going to try without the racks.

One thing about your comment above though. Wont i be attacked at Palins base if im not invited though. ???

Messages are only mixed because the answer depends on what you are doing (which is not stipulated iirc). In summary - you do not NEED THEM, but it depends on what you are doing. If you are carrying a few around for a fair amount of time quite frequently then it would be WISE to get them. If you are just doing one short run - don't bother.

re: Engineers - no they don't shoot at you (unless you shoot at them) but you just wont be able to access much when you land there. Several engineers require you to drop stuff off before they are unlocked so you need to land to drop off supplies.
