Corrupted exploration data after 1.4 upgrade

I was commenting on Tuesday evening in this thread, with a few others, that i was concerned about the sudden loss of a couple of days data. Iv been advising players since that i wasn't moving an inch until the issues were resolved - & i haven't.

Yet it was only FRIDAY dinnertime before FD acknowledged that there was an issue - other than 'We know, we're looking into it' & informed players to 'Stop Exploring'.
This was despite numerous posts on various threads, telling them that things were REALLY not good.

Indeed. I have also been very clearly and openly voicing my concerns (also directly to FD) that exploration was seriously broken:
Disagreeing with Zac that everything is fine to continue
and
Advising all explorers to wait

But there's also something positive in FD not acknowledging the problems (at first). Because they said everything was fine, when it clearly was not, that will be an extra motivation for them to properly fix and test it now. Perhaps in the future explorers concerns may even be taken more seriously.

So maybe something good comes out of this mess in the end. Let's hope so...

Maybe, but i doubt it...pewpew first at all costs.

btw. last update from M Brookes - who's on his to Sag a*

'I'm continuing, but the journey is the purpose rather than the exploration data, so I'd still advise people to hold off for now.

Michael'

Latest update....

Good news - We've been given the all clear to Explore.

Bad news - Does not look good for missing 03/10-05/10 data, being asked to re-scan these systems. (direct answer to me from Michael Brookes)

At least i can move along now!

I'll wait a couple of days before trying again. Losing several days of exploration data isn't as bad as I was expecting. I really thought I was going to lose the months and months worth I have accumulated on my present trip. Still losing even just a few days data is a real off putting event to me. I will play again but for now I will wait to see if FD's fix is real. As for rescanning those systems where FD lost the data would mean turning around and heading in the wrong direction. Yeah I never had a destination when I set out but now I do and it is back to the bubble for repairs. Though I am not racing back just taking my time so it will take a few months. I just have to be sure they've fixed it then I can put the loss down to an Ionic storm or something to keep the immersion which was badly shaken by the recent events.

Hmm, think I'll still give it 48h, just in case.

I'm going back in today, can't afford to wait another 48hrs if I want to be back before Horizons lands. If 1.4 is anything to go by,
being back home is preferable to being out in the black, when a major update hits. :)

Besides, I won't get far anyway, the way I play.

The way I understand the most recent update to the exploration data issue:

1) If you've already sold data to UC, you should've received possible first discovery credit (and probably even some cash alongside that) ...

2) ...however, this data may show up as 'unexplored' on your personal system maps, even if it will show you as the first discoverer.

3) Any of this data sold to UC is unrecoverable by FD to your personal system information - however, you can apparently go back to rescan the bodies (and I'd venture to guess: you can re-sell the data as well) if you so wish

4) They're apparently working on trying to see if they can restore any data NOT YET SOLD TO UC back to your local system maps as well

5) The post seems unclear to me whether you can continue to scan right now and your local system maps stays updated as you go, or will they become "bugged" like the rest and you'll have to wait until they get the probable fix at point 4) deployed

Conclusion: Probably safe to go ahead and scan, but at this juncture you should avoid selling data to UC - unless you want a trip back to rescan the bodies.

I also have some second-hand evidence of the issue. As CMDR Etienne Champeaux put it on IRC...
18:13 < Zeb> Kalpa, I just checked and the systems I explored the other day are correctly tagged First Discivered By me, but are also marked as Unexplored

Well i'm currently re-tracing my way back through the WDs & NSs that iv lost in data. So far so good, there doesn't seem to be any issues. I'll only know when i log in 2moro, but i'll chance it.
I doubt i'll get every WD/NS re-scaned, will probably not get them all, cos i don't note my route, but that's the way it goes.

Back in the chair & my engines started first time!!!

*Discovered :)

It's a little bit worse than I thought. As you can see from these screenshots, it saved one star and one planet as First Discovered, but another star does not show First Discovered. (I promise you I didn't skip scanning it).

I haven't checked the other discoveries I turned in. I'm pretty disappointed I lost some First Discovered tags - makes me not want to bother exploring anymore if the credit isn't going to be preserved.

Bah, there's still too many issues so I've decided to open a bottle of red and play the training missions instead.
I'll come back to exploring next week and play double sessions to catch up.

I seem to have lost my 2nd account somewhere, can't be bothered to find/fix it.

Remind me NEVER to be out exploring when an update is due again.

Michael has posted:
Some updates are still being run - they should complete overnight so check in the morning if there's still an issue. - 08/10/2015, 6:14 PM

I and others in the main thread have noticed the missing bodies/navigation panel issue, as he says I'll try again tomorrow and see if they've been "repaired"

Yes, but that was the day before yesterday. Before they realized, that the bug was bigger than expected and halted all exploration.

aahh yeah sorry!

could've sworn that said 10/10 earlier, need to go to Specsavers!

in that case it's still borked then.

Yay! I retrieved my 2nd account and have spent the night in a T6 doing missions and trading. I got an Imp rank up
mission and I'm now at Master so I can buy a Courier, go me!

This is sooo much better than CQC or just sitting there waiting, I recommend a 2nd Cmdr to everyone (course there is a
financial penalty to pay but what the heck, you can't take it with you, right?).

I've got to stop answering my own posts, it's a form of madness.

I signed on last night and all the local systems I could see from last session (which was Thursday) were all showing as explored. From what I can see for my account, it seems to be fine.

My map will also they that I have explored them, but when you click on the system and look inside, all of the bodies will show up as unexplored. If you go to support, there is still a banner at the top saying to not explore. I'm sitting in a system with an ELW. The system I'm sitting in shows it has been explored from the galactic map but inside the system map I had to rescan. Nothing was explored. I'm getting more upset about this by the day.
