This is my PMK2 -
Venator. This is my Corsair -
Dividices. The former can take on 3-4 NPC Corvettes at once (multiple assassination targets dropping in on me) without much problem. The Corsair can take 2, sometimes 3 (especially if one of the Corvettes is busy blasting another).
The Corsair is
good at combat, just not
excellent like the PMK2. However, the Corsair can collect and store loot with it's limpets (useful for those PP rescue escape pods/wreckage weekly tasks) or hack adverts. It's also really good at landing on planets - surprisingly so considering the landing gear aren't that tightly packed.
The Corsair appears to be far less maneuverable than the PMK2, but it's strong vertical thrust can let you pull maneuvers to cancel out some of that bad pitch rating. The PMK2 still wins, but it's a dedicated combat ship, so...
The only real issue (other than potentially heat) the Corsair has is that if you aren't using fixed weapons, unless the target is right in front of you one or two of your weapons won't be able to fire as the Corsair's fuselage will be in the way. The bottom hardpoint has this problem the worst.
As far as heat goes, it may run too hot, though I'm not seeing any problems (I did when I tried both rapid fire pulse and overcharged pulse lasers) currently. It certainly doesn't have problems with heat with fuel scooping. I can hang out around the star at maximum fuel scoop rate distance with no problem.
