Corsair is deeply disappointing

Fully G5 Engineered.
Ship handles like a baby Anaconda.
Beak obscures a third of the cockpit view.
Having all hardpoints on the fuselage makes it incredibly difficult to get all hardpoints firing at the same time. The enemy ship only has to be slightly off centre for at least 2 of your hardpoints to be obscured. The lack of manoeuvrability only compounds this issue.
Nightmare to cargo scoop. Mats just get batted away half the time.

The good bits are the aesthetics, sounds, boost speed, sco and power distributor. However these good points don't outweigh the bad. Its a case of form over function.
Ultimately its not easy or fun to fly.

o7, that's odd. I have found my Corsair "Thunderchief Xeno" to be an amazing killing machine last night at Asterope. To the point that I have reclassed my main & regular AX ships as follows:
  • Viper MK4 I Light AX Fighter
  • Chieftain I Definitive AX Dogfighter
  • Krait MKII I Heavy AX Fighter
  • Corsair I Super Heavy I AX Superiority Fighter

Have you tried it with FA-Off?

Similar to most combat ships.

I’ve only been playing with fixed so far so they tend to all be lined up. The bottom HP is a particularly bothersome placement as, especially with the cockpit visibility, I naturally keep the target above me.

The lack of manoeuvrability only compounds this issue.

It’s no small ship when it comes to manoeuvrability, but I can get guns on target even without engineering.

Nightmare to cargo scoop. Mats just get batted away half the time.

I’ve not tried it, I’ve got collectors, but I’ve had issues with all the Gutamaya ships.

Agree.

It certainly doesn’t live up to the prerelease hype, but I think it’s a solid heavy fighter (like the Krait MkII).

Yeah, it’s awesome for AX combat!

Anaconda or the Corvette
It is worth remembering for those that they have their cockpit/bridge (the ship's big enough to qualify unless 3300s have new standards which is entirely possible) mounted at the back of the ship so all of that ship section feels less in your face than on a smaller ship. Although it hasn't personally bothered me too much for things like the Courier, either.

Being great for AX is one thing, but with the only content available in that regard being back to nebula 'hunting' (which I don't do, but sidetrack), I would not consider it worth the expense to get the ship early with ARX unless you're an enthusiast about fighting Thargoids. And I don't really see anything that currently exists which is challenging enough for a ship as powerful (overpowered? could be argued...) as the Corsair in the absence of that war AX content. Something potentially still arguable when 90% of the station conflict zones was just massacring hapless Cyclops.

It's the only way I can get it on target... I actually preferred the Krait II and the FAS for dogfighting, just easier to get the nose around. I switched my FA off to hold, still trying to get the hang of that.
Yeah, it’s awesome for AX combat!
Maybe for AX but I'm not feeling it for NPCs, seems to take a lot of module damage. I will do more tonight, I think I will add a rail with feedback cascade on it, getting tired of the NPCs that spam SCBs and chaff.

I just can't seem to get in close and hang there like I can with the Python II. If I can't figure this out it will be a waste of money, the Mandy is way better at general mission running and seems to be equal in it's combat for me. Which is strange as the Corsair should hit much harder than it does.
I can get behind evey other critique for the Corsair, but this

Is something that I really don't get.
I've seen people complaining about this, while swearing by the Anaconda or the Corvette on the same breath, and those ships, for all intents and purposes, have a small village in front of their canopy.
To me it feels like I am flying the vet... The nose isn't really the issue, it's the area in front of dashboard that rises up to block the view.

I just don't feel like the ship has much personality, the overly large area in front dashboard, the unnecessary extra canopy hoop, the view being blocked as you look out the sides to the rear... If the pilots seat was moved forward to between the hoops it would have been so much better. I'm just underwhelmed by this ship.

The choice of slot for your weapons actually matters, and adds a layer of strategical depth to combat ship building. Which is actually quite awesome.

Don't just slap all weapons in whatever slot. Consider the weapon's positioning on the ship's hull, and consider which hardpoints work together well for the same type/role of weapon. Even if it's tempting to think "I want three class-3 multicannons for Maximum Damage!", consider how they are positioned on the hull. Perhaps mix class-3 and class-2 weapons of the same type to make them better positioned. Even if one or two of the weapons are smaller, it may well be that they overall do more damage because of what they see.

It’s not like it’s only good for AX. I’ve not had time to engineer my mission runner, or test it much. But it seems fairly solid so far.

It doesn’t out class everything else like the Cobra MkV, maybe that’s part of the problem. It’s followed two amazing ships. 🤔

I'm similarly as a bit "meh" about the ship at present but about to try some frags on it so see if the alpha damage from those can compensate for the limited time on target.

Tried frags ... I must be missing something about them as I know people find them very effective but they seemed very mediocre to me.

I realised the two big issues I've been having - aside from the less-stellar-than-expected pitch rate - were:
  • Power NPCs with SCBs dragging out the shield stripping stage
  • Not enough DPS against hull to finish enemies off before the shields recharge
So, I've gone back to my first proposed loadout:
  • 2x C2 Beams (Long Range + Thermal Vent)
  • 1x C2 Railgun (Long Range & High Capacity + Feedback Cascade)
  • 3x C3 Multi-Cannon (Overcharged + Auto-Loader / Corrosive)
This seems much better: the beams can essentially be fired indefinitely with 3-pips in WEP (which gives a little more in both ENG and SYS to improve handling and shields) and the railgun stops the SCB problem. Once the shields are down, those three C3 multis do an excellent job and the Corrosive effect on one means I can even bring the Beams back in for longer range hull damage if they try to run.

I also managed to stack some better booster / guardian module combos to get my shields up to 1400MJ (from ~1180MJ previously) which seems to have helped survivability.

It's basically a better Python. If you didn't like flying a Python before, you're not going to like this one now.

Personally, I'm kitting mine out with 3 large efficient burst lasers and 3 mining lasers. That way I can join others in my Power in haz rezzes and blow up pirates AND mine with them, while they focus on finding the good rocks.

corsair certainly feels like a small large ship. i for one am glad it didnt fall into the godship category completely. it has its quirks, it has its strengths, its overall a very satisfying ship. but i can see few things still being up for fixing...
the real question is: how many corsair threads do we need?

Hey, is Asterope special for AX hunting?
I was out of the game during the Thargoids war, and have been practicing at Deciat now that I'm back... But it's mainly ganker fest over there... :-/

Was just comparing to a conda on EDSY and it's not really that much better in pitch or yaw, but I guess the conda is made from Anacondium, the imperial slaves just had low grade steel since all the good stuff is being used but colonization.
