Corsair is nice, but I need a bigger 18-wheeler. A SCO-Capable, Jump Further, Haul More Fatter Version of the Imperial Clipper

The next ship is surely a big cargo ship that barely fits trough the mail slot. ( a giant brick)

I don't know why people think a ship that can hold more cargo would need to be larger foot-print wise. The Cutter is the size of a transoceanic car-carrier and they can carry tens of thousands of tons.

ED uses planes as the reference not ships. They fly and they're far lighter with far lower cargo capacity. Space magic not withstanding it can land it carries less than a ship.

I'm talking about the relationship between outside dimensions and internal volume. My point was the internal volume of already existing ships is MORE than ample to increase cargo capacity without making the ships have a larger footprint.

OP asks for a new hauling ship with precisely stated improvements needed, you're simply listing the existing ones. You think you helped him by showing your intricate knowledge of the game?
I was not responding to the OP if you had read the post I'd quoted and not just mass quoted everyone who had made mention of a currently available ship

Isn’t it pretty simple?
A cutter(or something more boxy or whatever), sco ready, without the restricted slots(meaning they won’t be restricted, but ready to put cargo racks in).
If they make a few core internals smaller, those “restricted slots” could be two size 6.

Should be able to carry 128 more cargo that way, without larger footprint.

I suspect 128 tons might not be enough for what some want. Have we not seen suggestions for 2000 ton capacity new ships?

If you were to give this hypothetical new ship 2K cargo, but make its handling even more sluggish than the Type 9 as an offset it would sap all the joy out of flying. Instead, maybe make the capacity 1K+ (depending on configuration) but with improved handling since it's made to move cargo. The offset could be weak weapons and distributor (to prevent it from becoming the mining meta). I think something along these lines would be a definitive upgrade for hauling:
  • Cargo capacity of 1K tons with shield & FSD Booster fitted
  • Fully laden Jump range 40 LY (with FSD Booster)
  • Huge fuel tank, capable of traveling 150+ LY or more before refueling
  • Max boost between that of Cutter and Type 9
  • SCO performance about like the Type 8 or a little better (heat, handling, and the rate at which it drains the tank)
  • Overall pitch, yaw, horizontal and vertical thrust no worse than the Type 9
  • Roll nearly as good as Cutter
Might even be a bit overpowered, but then so are most of the other new SCO optimized ships.

This 2k cargo ship is not for "the joy of flying" but for hard work.
