Cosmetics: Why they need a change

Unlockables eh? So you want to grind for cosmetics? Make a poll about that please, I'm off to change my pants in preparation. :D

But the grind precedes the cosmetics already.

What's wrong with some exclusive and fancy well todo, flouncy, oooh look at me, Cutter cosmetics for people who reach Prince and King ranks?

Empire flourish, where is it? In update 2.4 or will it be £15 in the store?

King rank is utterly meaningless, 2 years later everyone around me is *still* completely oblivious to how important I am, NPCs and players, it would be very easy to offer earnable cosmetic rewards so other players give me the respect I deserve!

But no, because unlike other *paid for* games, with this publisher, all cosmetics have to be paid for with extra money and so nothing is permitted to be "earned".

Free to play titles like War Thunder do a much better job. Free to play, not a full priced game.

Weve already paid good money for ED, please stop being such stingy sods Frontier and provide free options for all features, and add in game earnables. With that in place people will be much less likely to feel they're being treated like cash cows and so, will be much more likely to buy out of goodwill.

I see... So you think that everything in ED is a grind, and everything they'll add to the game in the future will inevitable be a grind... Why are you here?

Me? Nope boss, I don't think that at all.

However if you take a peek around the forum, you may just find one or two posts from people who do have that impression.

Since you asked though, I'm here because I have over 2,000 hours in the game, all of which I've enjoyed. If you took a squint at my post history, you'd see I'm actually usually getting it in the neck for telling people who whine about 'teh grind' to stop forcing themselves to do something they hate and then moaning about their choices, in fact I made a fairly lengthy post about that quite recently in response to someone, so I guess I should thank you for adding variety to my browsing experience at least.

Like I already said, it's for each individual to make their choice about whether they feel the game represents value for money or not. It's the 'I am entitled to this because I paid for it' line of thinking that I'm predominantly challenging, simply because it's inaccurate.

I don't happen to feel like I'm being rinsed at all and considering that since I'm a public servant I'm on less than £20k a year despite having been doing my job (which I'm bloody good at) for over 12 years, I'm usually quite attuned to the feeling that someone is dipping their hand into my wallet.

It's a personal perspective though and we all set the tolerance threshold for that ourselves. I've said that consistently.

Oooh, so you were making a joke. Sorry, sometimes I just don't get those :(

That'd look pretty cool indeed :D

:) Iridescent applied carefully alongside with some darker deeper richer neon lights can give you that special kind of cyber gothic feeling, especially if you use in ships with rawer more brutish shapes.
In the other hand?
Pearlescent perfectly fitting to the Imperial ships overall style and design. To that ships i can hardly imagine anything else as working cosmetic make up. I had seen some of them with other colors but that's just...

NAHHHH! :D

If you use pearlescent ad iridescent in moderation, or base paint? It can be quite nice. But if you overdoing it? well, lets just say too much is too much.

But only after FD repairs ED color handling because if you see cobalt blue in the store cobalt blue, and in the game you see some purplish blue monstrosity? Than something is wrong!

I disagree too, Frontier is not charging us every month for premium accounts like the majority of online games today
Wait, what? The vast majority of on-line games are either F2P or pay-60$-once (CoD, Battlefield). There are very few subscription-based games anymore. World of Warcraft, annnnd? And what, actually? Almost all sub-based games had to move to an F2P model (even a vastly successful game like EVE!) or died.

As a new player I hate the colour of my adder and would happily part with a couple bucks for a recolour, but spending £5 on a pack of skins for a newbie ship I'll probably upgrade from and rarely fly again is hard to justify in terms of value for money. It seems kind of silly that some ships have tons of skins which are purchasable individually when so many others are only offered a handful of packs. I doubt it would kill them to offer a few basic recolours available for credits either.

I get that the game probably has a sizable demographic of middle aged men with large disposable incomes and they've chosen to go with a business model of milking those people, but they really could have gone about it would have been really nice if they went about it in a more considered way with options that appeal to a broader group of customers.
