Could the FSS setup have been more compicated ?, you've excelled this time F-Dev.

I was exited to try the FSS thingy, spent 30 mins in 2D setting up bindings for FSS and Comabt HUD, (in VR) jumped to a system, scanned, activated FSS darn thing wouldn't do anything, dived back into bindings, fiddled with this and that but no idea what does what, during one of my tests I was Interdicted, JFC....... give me a chance to try and test my bindings. After a hour I still had no idea how to get the FSS to move. Also there's only so many combinations of bindings that's possible for sanity after which insanity prevails, (PS4 controller on PC).

If it hadn't been for the forum/utube warnings to setup Combat HUD mode bindings I would really be annoyed at this mechanic. already that's one precious binding wasted.

I've decided to only use the honk to scan the system and I've restored all my old bindings. Something so simple yet you've succeeded in making the use of the FSS and related system setup so darned complicated with to many bindings. Not interested, back to simplicity for me.

EDIT: why not use the galaxy map bindings for control of the FSS, these are two different modes, when in FSS mode just point to those bindings.

Yip, I thought that too. It's not as if you can do both at the same time.

I'd kind of hoped they'd have elected to do that since there were a lot of complaints\moans\whinges when the first Explorer Beta dropped.

Probably it would be better to provide some "default bindings" for the FSS, especially considering that FSS mode is not conflicting with other UI modes; Instead of forcing players to get used to FSS and to setup don't-know-what-for-these-20-buttons-exactly before using the feature.

Perhaps 777Driver could provide a Youtube tutorial as it's all soooooooooo easy for him. I want it scrapped, personally. Cost me a mission already.

Took me a few mins to set everything up. If you struggle with things like this, watch a youtube tutorial
Thanks for stopping by mate, I eagerly await your "few minutes" utube tutorial, ofcourse it never dawned on me to search for "Elite Dangerous FSS setup, or Elite Dangerous Chapter 4 Explorer setup, or Obsidian, or The Yamiks, or Down To Earth" etc.....

How mine is set up (Keyboard and mouse)
Enter FSS Mode M
Zoom in to target: Mouse 1
Zoom out: Mouse 2
Stepped Zoom in: W
Stepped Zoom Out: S
Tuning Right: D
Tuning Left: A
Mouse X-Axis: Yaw
Mouse Y Axis: Pitch (Inverted)
Leave FSS: Backspace
Target Current Signal: T

Fiddle with the sliders for mouse sensitivity to get something you like. I prefer relative mouse, but it wasn't working last time I logged into beta. You can skip most of the other bindings as they're situational/unnecesary. The reason for this set up: As little difference to flight controls as possible, with some level of logic for the process.

I have been on the verge of playing all night. The prospect of fiddling with all the bindings and controls puts me off to the point that i havent yet been able to, seems like too much work.

Maybe when there is a new voice attack profile, so i dont have to remember much.

The binds are not difficult. A bit annoying to have to reorganize everything if you were nearing your limit on binds before, but not difficult.

You need a way to tune the scanner frequency, select target, coarse zoom, and fine zoom. If you could figure out the vanity camera, the FSS should be easy.

"if you could figure out the vanity camera, the FSS should be easy." ..

Haven't tried setting up the Fss yet, but damn I never managed to use that one successfully :)

If you could figure out the vanity camera,
huh, whats that.
I revisited the FSS and used the same controls as per galaxy map for standardisation and simplicity, also being able to use the same switch to toggle on off is good. the art is in simplicity or just enough bindings to make it work, this takes time, trial and error, certainly more time than a few minutes :))

Now that I have the bindings sorted and understand how to use the new modules I've focused on understanding what the iconography means and here I have to give a big hand of applause to Obsidian and a BIG THANKS to imgur (link below) for posting a beautiful description of the FSS iconography, I'm happy now that I understand what I'm looking at.

FSS iconography: https://imgur.com/obIH6zF

Understanding the chevron patterns in the FSS center scanner makes using it a breeze and super quick.

Whilst I'm here, non FSS, DSS, or DS related but relevant....
F-Dev: Still there's no official detailed HUD iconography explanation from you either. I'm also waiting for a official explanation of the dynamic vertical lines.

@777Driver I struggled too so whats your bindings?

I put together a post with a guide to setup (binds) and use, with demonstration videos. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...e-Exploration-Tools-With-Demonstration-Videos

It might help, it isn't "polished" - made to answer a question in Newcomers and sort of grew.

To be fair, that’s what I thought at first, but once you’ve got the hang of how everything works, it’s much much quicker, and can be selective if necessary.

I dont know why people struggle with this? I use the exact same controls as manuevering my ship is, on a xbox controller.

Pitch and jaw stays the same.
Roll becomes tuning.
Throttle controls becomes zoom in and out.
Select target ahead becomes select target...
leave mode is B, the same key for everything to go back/cancel.
Entering the mode i've grouped with the context options for ship extensions (hardpoints, landing gear, cargo).

Dont use any of the other keybinds, like strepped zoom which the game seems to be doing automatically on overlapping circles to begin with.
