Could we have made our own solar system by now?

Hello Commanders,

Currently I am out in the middle of space scanning stars and fuel scooping, but the thought hit me, between all the commanders out there bouncing around in space, have we as a community fuel scooped enough to have created our own star? further into that train of thought, have we mined enough materials and traded enough goods that we could build a livable planet next to our fake star?

it would be fun to see the math on it, but I have no idea how to translate the fuel we get from fuel scooping into being a star, or how much metal, dirt etc we would need to create a viable planet.

One solar mass would be equal to 1.9855x10^27 tons of matter (hydrogen). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_mass

I think that's a lot more than the playerbase has managed to scoop up from stars, even if transported goods and mined materials are taken into account.

Correspondingly, one earth mass (if you want a 1G planet) would be 5.9722x10^21 tons of matter. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth_mass

For example:
If one million ships scooped one ton of matter every second, every day for two years (since the end of Alpha), that would be 1000000 * 86400 * 365 * 2 = 6.3072e+13. It's going to take quite a while to get up to one Earth mass with one million tons per second, in other words.

No. Not even close.

Assuming 1 million commanders each scooping 100 tonnes of fuel per day, every it would take around 54 quardrillion years to scoop a whole sun.

You could never make make your own Solar System, unless you decided to call your new star 'Sol' as well, even if it was possible.

Star System, yes. Solar system, no

So if i did the math on this correctly (using Kzak´s wiki numbers) each of the million commanders have to bring about 3 earth sized planets worth of hydrogen.:O
i got room for 430T in my conda, thats roughly 80.000.000.000.000.000.000 trips collecting and dumping :O

(But the numbers might be wrong, i didnt spend a lot of time on this [wink])

I love these types of figures from elite.
I want the steam achievement of Discovered All to be a thing.
Just because :)

I asked the Devs earlier on the forums, sadly there's no immediate plans to put the XBox achievements for E: D on Steam. Probably because they'd have to make the achievements retroactive, tracking what everyone had been doing since launch and that would be quite a headache to implement, as opposed to having them for XBox from the launch for that platform.

Is this thread an episode of QI in disguise... waiting for someone to mention "Star Killer Base"?

Not actually sure what QI or star killer base is to be honest, im just an explorer who generally avoids anything bubble related...

I will say, I think it would be fun (even if it was destined to fail) community goal to have a random NPC try and put together their own solar/star system just because he was rich enough to try.

space construction rumored to be part of next-gen DLC/patches.
but nothing about making celestial bodies, yet. which is perhaps be "engineering+" thing and require whole clan/league contribution/efforts ?
but generally i think that (creating objects, not assets, stations, facility, etc)slightly break Elite spirit/purpose.
