Cpu overheating since swapping rift S for a reverb G2

Since upgrading to a hp reverb g2 I've had over heating issues.
The game fires up ok indeed it plays perfect only halfway thru a cz when it's real busy on screen it'll just go black and hang...l can hear sound of battle ongoing so l have to ctrl alt del to shut off Ed.exe
I've concluded I'll need a better water/gel cooled cpu device but In the meantime any suggestions as to problem..
I've relocated the pc near a window with side panel cpu idles at 34 degrees rising to 90 degrees according to omen app once I've reverted back to desktop.
I'm not overclocking. And the side panel off defo makes a difference running 10 or so degrees cooler but it's not enough it still crashes

Not a solution but have you thought of installing throttling software like TThrottle?
I’ve used it for years mostly on laptops. It throttles either CPU and/or GPUs when the temperature exceeds a limit you set.

check your vents, fans and heat sinks are clean and clear especially on the GPU

make sure all the fans are spinning

now this depends on your system bios but check and makesure theres no setting for running cool and quiet or quiet, if there is disable it, having this enabled will force your system to run with the fans at the lowest speed hence quiet

make sure your case fans are set in push pull (one side in other out), you should be able to do this by feel alone but there will usually be airflow direction arrows on fans

last but not least check windows event logs if theres a CPU thermal issue it should be recorded with a red exclamation mark

however the issue you describe is more indicative of a GPU driver crash or power issue than CPU thermal problems

Meantime I've bought this baby for cooling the villainous cpu

Shouldn't make it worse (except for your purse), but are you sure it's the CPU? CPU usuallya throttles when overheating (nothing much you can do about that) and ultimately shuts down (which you'd notice). GPU crashing (or PSU getting weak in the knees) could result in a loss of the picture.
So, first of all, I'd check with some system monitoring tools what kind of load your compoanants are reporting. The basic Task Manager/Performance graph from Windows is already a start, as lo9ng as you take it witrh a (big) grain of salt.
Next step up (for me) would be something like HWInfo to check loads, temperatures and fan speeds.

Omen has a suite that monitors cpu fan speed (rpm) and temp.
The gpu is also monitored as is ram.
The gpu peaks at about 84° where as the cpu 90° or higher. I didn't even contemplate the psu might be a problem. Btw this pc worked flawlessly with the rift S. So I'm assuming it's the huge gpu demand.

if you go from idle temps to 90'c quickly then your CPU heatsink isn't seated correctly or a fan isn't functioning correctly.

If you go from idle temps to 90'c slowly then you have poor case ventilation or your HSF isn't good enough for your CPU.

edit: just realised it's a laptop. yeah, VR is taxing for laptops.

A lot of that is for the 30L, but the 25L is very similar.

Stock CPU cooler, if it's not the liquid one, is pretty anemic, but the system still shouldn't be getting so hot that it causes stability issues. If you have the liquid cooler on there already, it's possible there is something wrong with the pump.

In any case, don't see any intake filters, so the whole system should probably be dusted out to see if that improves thermal performance.

Thx I ordered it now the liquid cooler. Cleaned it out...very dusty. Film of dust on everything.
The standard heatsink on the cpu just isn't up to the job.

just a point of note: looking at those spec you posted your motherboard is Micro ATX which will usually be installed in micro ATX cases which tend to be small. have you checked the case has an external fan mount which is 120mm with clearance for the fan and radiator and pipes? you will also need to check theres clearance above the CPU to allow for the pump as well

Yup it's in a standard atx case. Your right the micro board only has one slot for the geforce.
I've stripped it out dismantling the video card assembly and the cpu. New thermal paste. So much crap in there. And!!! No front fan to suck in cool air only the rear fan and cpu fan on its sink.
Will fire up soon meantime I'm waiting on the liquid cooler to arrive until I go for it.

Well I've learned a few things since Op.
Cutting to the chase the changes I make to resolution using wmr are dead cool..wow
Anyways I fitted the liquid cooler cpu thingy....dropped temp to as low as 28c. Under stress in a high cz I quickly popped out had a look temp was 71c not 90+. Yay!! Gpu also marginally cooler. I'm gonner introduce another fan to the base to suck air in as the case fan blows out as well as this new huge fan/radiator.
Might cool it more.
Very stable no problems at all

I got a Cooler Master water-cooled under 100 cdn and it really made a difference. Had space for the rad where the front fan was. Made it an intake thru the rad and have another existing one rears idea as exhaust.
Highly recommend any additional cooling

I disconnected the lightshow
A) I'm in vr can't see it.
B) surely it contributes to heat generated?
I'm trying to lose heat not make more lol.
