CQC is unfair.

I'm pretty much aware that this thread will be seen as another spawn of comedy for your sad faces, but opinions in our world are pretty much all about this - laugh at them and forget the next day.

Doesn't matter, I'm secure enough to not to be bothered by irony and low quality baits.

Playing against 50 level sweats and try hards when you're only level 23 isn't much of a pleasure or fun, you know.
I'm aware that its dead and you're in luck if you'll find at least 1 player in match maker, but honestly, finding people who's bored out of their mind and seek only hate towards them to boost their absent fragile ego and bottom line self-esteem isn't a gameplay.

I've never claimed to be top tier player or one of a kind newbie, so I can't say I'm angry because I'm worse, I'm angry because I was given no chances to get better.

What else is that people like a certain someone, being sugar coated by community, perhaps because of mass lack of personality, use top tier stuff, like oneshot lasers, unbreakable shields and most likely that thing that makes your ship unable to be traced by others when its shields are down.
Low levels don't stop these people, in fact they give their best to crush them into dirt, like if it proves anything. I mean, I can go crush some ants too and call myself a king of animal kingdom, only to be mauled by a bear later. CQC really lacks such bears who'd put such players in their place.
CQC apparently already became their territory and they scare off any low level newbie so they can bask in their pointless achievements and seek for noobs and newbies to prove themselves to.

And this certain someone gathers haters around him and finds it cool. How sad must you be :p
No wonder matchmaker is dead and you get only top tier players.

This post is purely a rant and I honestly care none about replies. But from what I know being toxic and "beating children" is considered a big balls move these days, so feel free to swing them around here, it'll be fun to see you desperately try to roast me.
Here's a picture of my statistics, so your "arguements" about my skill issue will be baseless. You can't have enough skill to fight sweats and tryhards with such statistics and less than a week experience in CQC.

The only thing I don't understand here is why you keep throwing abuse at other people who are also presumably just trying to have fun - I mean they can only fight what's there and that doesn't make them 'tryhards'.

I used to play another game with an arena mode which also had no meaningful level matching at all and I agree it was crap, both for noobs looking to gain skill and experience and for the players who had both, and consequently ended up padding their stats from slaughtering said noobs. Any game mode like this should have matchmaking that takes account of relative skill levels but that brings its own problems when there aren't many people playing it to begin with.

Note - I don't do CQC at all and so have no dog in this fight.

I think honestly you've managed to roast yourself here and no one could possibly compete.

Obligatory git gud.

Keep going Lawrence, ask for tips too. I am at best mediocre but all the top players have given me advice when I have asked. The players are mostly a friendly bunch. Be nice to them and they will help you, always good to see new players at cqc.

Here's the thing about combat in Elite, whether it's CQC or an open play engagement:

We can give all the advice in the world, but we can't fly the ship for you.

There's what, 3-5 arenas in CQC? It doesn't take long to learn where the powerups are. The damage powerup is king. Try to control it-- even if you die before you can use it. Any time someone else gets it is bad news, even if they aren't shooting at you, because they'll be raking in points from other players.

I feel you're seriously underestimating how much firepower it provides you with. Same with shield boost with proper pip management.

CQC is brutal for new players because it really is all about practice. I get friend requests then called a cheater frequently and I'm, at best, a mid-tier player. A few outright own me on a regular basis. If you want to get good just play. Right now the best time to get matches is early evening Europe time(early to mid-afternoon American time). A fairly regular group of the higher end players play TDM almost daily at those times and being on a team you won't feel all alone.

From the CQC discord:

Getting your a** kicked repeatedly.
Getting your a** kicked most of the time.
Getting your a** kicked more often than not.
Getting your a** kicked sometimes.
Kicking the occasional a** yourself.
Kicking more a** as you get better.
Kicking lots of a** and receiving salt from the kickees.
Kicking obscene amounts of a** and most CQC players hating and avoiding you.

That's a good advice, thanks.

So... I have now also been (seriously) dealing with CQC for the last few days.

Well, I also find the lack of level matching an absolute turn-off. Just the other day I had 5 players, all between level 1 and 20. It was actually quite good, fun and never really unfair - sure, the level 20 pilot often (but not always) kicked the others' asses, but it was still doable and fun. He didn't win every game and it was about 40 minutes of everyone sticking to it. Then another player came along - what was that, level 50? Anyway, it took exactly 3 more games and apart from him and me, there was exactly... nobody else anymore. Reason? Because it just wasn't fun any more. I mean, I already knew who got me before I saw his name - and the three matches with him were all over before the regular playing time - and of course he always had his 750 to 800 points, while none of us got even one assist. I logged out and logged back in 10 minutes later. This time there were again 4 players between level 1 and 20 and what can I say: 30 minutes of fun again until the next level 40 pilot came in.

I'm not criticising the fact that I get pulverised by the level 50 (elite) pilot - from a certain point on, the new level 1 pilots didn't stand much of a chance against me once I had them in my sights. And I'm also sure that many level 50 pilots would like to have a match with pilots of about the same level to be able to compete properly, so I think we're all in the same boat here. But it's just a fact that the way it is, after a certain point, it's just a turn-off and that's a shame.

There has never really been enough CQC players to support the sort of weighted matchmaking that would exclude higher ranks.

Some sort of training mode where people could learn the maps and mechanism would probably help, but the only thing that's going to make CQC tolerable for many is a massive influx of players to dilute the top ranks...which is never going to happen because CQC was already niche and the current skill demographics make it very punishing on novices.

Do you play on PC?

On PC quite many regular players are trying to reach their CQC elite rank so when they join lobby that gives them opportunity to score some points they will obviously take it.

CQC rank is a very long grind, you can't blame them.

Just take the initial beating like everyone else did (including me) and later you will be that guy.

Hey there,

It's hard to find player with a corresponding level.
There is also the fact that Odyssey and Horizon is split, you normally know that, but it's also true for CQC...
So depending of wich version you use, you may get joined by differents player depending of this.
It has been observed that some old CQC players (Dek 🤮) farm rookies in Odyssey where as a big part of the CQC community still play on horizon.

even that say, we need more people to try and learn about CQC so they can get stronger and don't get surprised by the gamemode

I've been in a similar spot to @MUSKETEER in another game, some years ago.

Honestly? I ended up hating what happened in the end.

Loads of folk really getting salty with me all the time, flat out rage quitting just because I joined, never mind fired a shot from Spitfire.

I'm not going to begrudge him for what he does, however, I've been on both sides of this coin.

It's why I quit tying CQC. Because the level gap is real and frankly, I'm not interested in catching up.

If FD wanted CQC to make a comeback, (they have clearly abandoned it however), then probably the best thing to start with is doing away with level-locked setups.

Interestingly, just as Musky is playing an abandoned mode, my game was also abandoned.

The only reason why he is able to dominate the way he does is because the meta hasn't shifted for so many years. This is why nerfs and buffs are good for games.

He's not as good a gamer as he thinks he is lol, else he wouldn't be sticking to a abandoned game mode in a niche space sim.

EDIT: Mock me as you want, the abandoned nature of CQC is why you won't be seeing me there again. It's a pointless endeavour.

LOL Dude. Elite Dangerous and CQC is my retirement game. Now I'm old and roll on a zimmer frame, my reflexes are not the same anymore.

But I used to dominate FPS games like i.e. Battlefield 2 when I was young and handsome.

And I am the queen of England.

Dude, you can write anything.

Don't take what I am saying with absolute certainty, of course. This is the internet, you'd be dumb to do so. Nor will I take you as such.

Anyway, I have been looking forward to this one: #31.
