The private Beta will be 2 weeks followed by a public stress testing period before it goes fully live. (See today's Dev Update and follow up comment by Michael Brookes.)

David Braben has also done an AMA today where he stated their goal for the Xbox One launch date is 6th October 2015 and they have gone on record in the past to state 1.4 will go live on the same day as the Xbox One launch. With the current information we have it's looking like:

  • Private Beta (1st September 2015 - 14th September 2015).
  • Open Stress Testing (15th September 2015 - 5th October 2015).
  • 1.4 goes live / Xbox One version goes on general release (6th October 2015).

So it's currently looking like a 5 week process in total.
Forgive me, but what is Open stress testing? Is it like a public beta of it to see how the servers handle it? or am i mistaken...

Yes, it's a public beta. Essentially a 5 week beta on separate servers with the first 2 weeks being restricted to Beta+ Backers and the following 3 weeks (if the timing myself and SNaomiScott outlined is correct) being open to everyone.

So, just to clear it up, one can have pledged early enough for the Freagle without being eligible for the Emperial Eagle? I restarted my beta (no regrets there, it's like playing two different games and I'm loving it) and I got my Freagle back, but no Empfreagle. This is working as intended?

I noticed couple of minor bugs - self destruct sequence kicking in randomly, then switching itself off (nearly gave me heart attack in the middle of a very intense match!)

That's actually a feature: it means you've strayed oustide the arena boundary. You have so many seconds to get back into the fight in order to avoid self-destructing.

The Kickstarter had an "Imperal Bounty Hunter" starting option if you pledged enough, which came with an Imperial Eagle, but only the normal Eagle existed until now.

Kickstarter said:
Imperial Bounty Hunter: Have the option to start in an Imperial Colony with an Imperial Eagle Mk II Fighter with upgraded weapons and shields and 1,000 CR

FIX THE SUPERCRUISE LOW FPS FOR ATI CARDS PLS!!!

It's not Windows 10, It's not ATI's drivers, it's coding problem in ED that doesn't like the DirectX12 platform!!!

I'm one of the lucky ones that is using Windows 8 15.6 BETA drivers allowing this game to work normally.

Will any progress in beta be recorded in formal release?

Anything you do in BETA stays in BETA, it's nothing to do with your main profile, it's simply an older backup copy they use so you can try it safely without killing your main data :)

it is not an AMD/ATI only issue. GTX 980 here and FPS in SC is poor. (everywhere else they are improved over 1.3)

FD are aware however with a ticket in so fingers crossed it will be fixed by the time it goes live

Yes same windows 8.1 with titan x and rift
SC when approaching stations / planets is awful, just becomes a stutter fest much worse than 1.3

CQC is working superb feels and runs great and match making seems quick

did it seem to improve once you dropped out and then back into SC again, only for it to slowly degrade again over the next few mins?

this what what i seemed to experience in my albeit limited testing. i will try again tonight if i get on.

I was going to say the same thing, I think the patch notes are misleading though, as they can be read to mean that any powerplant hit could be an instakill.
Yes, thats exactly what I had understood by reading it.
If it's working otherwise I'll gladly be fine with the change as it actually seems to be a proper buff for bigger ships. (Though I'm not sure if it's probably a too big buff...let's see how it works.)

Immersion breaking? Care to elaborate? As of 1.4 Close Quarter Combat championship is official part of Elite lore. How is displaying a rank of something that is part of the lore breaking your immersion? I'm all up for immersion, but this term is very overused.
Sure I can elaborate;
Olympic Games are a lore of our real life too. Yet is it simply no part of my personal life at all. And as long as I'm not taking part in it there would be no reason to tell me:
"Eh, human, you got no olympic medals at all, noob!"

CQC will also not be a part of my Elite-Life. It's all fine and great people now can have their "olympics" in the Elite-Universe, but forcing every CMDR in the galaxy to be a part of it by saying "Eh, CMDR, you got no CQC-Ranking at all, noob!" is simply a disgusting way of forcing them into this mode.

Just because you find it nonsensical doesn't just make it so. It just makes it your opinion, no more no less. I for one find it great. It's Olympic Games of Elite universe. Billions of citizens from all over of the colonised space are watching it. Do you realise the amount of money those holo-adverts cost in the arenas? How can you call it nonsense?
Just as I can call soccer/football in real life nonsense. 22 guys chasing a ball while everyone could simply buy his own. Championships of these are therefore 'advanced' nonsense, no matter how many million people watch it.
Of course 'only in my opinion'. Reading this said by a mod makes me wonder if FD actually cares more for individual opinions than their mods do.

I also wonder how CQC actually should be able to fit into the Elite Lore. The whole galaxy is at war with each other, yet they're peacfully having championships?
Empire: "Eh, Fed! I know we're at war and all.... but let's have some CQC-Fun!"
Federation: "Hmmm.. sure, why not? I will just draw some highly skilled pilots away from the war front to have them in the CQC then."
Empire: "You gonna take part too, Ally? There will be free ice cream for your pilots!"
Alliance: "Ice cream? Call me in! I was getting bored of your wars anyway..."

Well, I don't do trading, because it bores me. Shall I request for the trading rank to be removed from my screen, because I don't like and I'm not taking part in it? Following your logic there should be no ranks displayed at all, because I'm pretty sure that within the whole player base there will be at least 1 person that doesn't participate in one of the career paths for each path.

As for having games during war times (since you refer to real life): http://www.iwm.org.uk/history/9-facts-about-football-in-the-first-world-war

It improved instantly once I dropped from SC, but I didn't go back into SC I docked at the station
At first I thought it might be because I was using the Annaconda as I've never used this ship in the live version

So I tested it with a few ships, Asp, Python, even the Orca but they all did the same once approaching the planet the frame rate takes a nose dive well below the 75fps, it certainly wasn't the usual little stutter you get in 1.3 much worse

Hope they can get it sorted, as everything else seemed spot on

I get what you're saying but by that logic, shouldn't your Power Play rank be listed there as well? What about when more new mini-games are added? I can see it getting quite crowded on that panel unless they introduce some sort of filter.

The fact is, your Explorer rank goes up anyway whenever you sell discovery data, regardless of whether you're actively pursuing an exploration path. Likewise your Combat and Trading ranks will slowly increase over time, unless you NEVER submit a bounty or sell some goods. If you don't participate in CQC though, you will be forever "Helpless".

Don't get me wrong: I jumped in for a quick look the other night and CQC seems like a lot of fun, but I can fully understand people not wanting to be told they're Helpless for all eternity.

Could've been worse though: they might have used "Useless" or "Hopeless"

And why not having an option in the UI to toggle which ranks do you really want to see...it is a "computer" inside of the ship after all.

Just my 2 cents.

While great fun, the CQC is outside the boundaries of the overal game. It's more of a game within a game, like AC in SC (not to compare the two in any meaningful way). Perhaps the rank should be located elsewhere as the trade, combat and exploration ranks all occur within the general game universe and as such are comparable to one another. The CQC rank is for a specific "sport" within the game. Perhaps it should have a minibar tab all it's own.

I've heard talk that they may eventually incorporate the various CQC locations into the game. Docking at a specific station at that CQC Map would either trigger the access, or perhaps you would have it on the stations StarPort Services menu.

I would like to see something like that to better integrate the whole CQC thing into the main game. I don't play CQC myself, but I wouldn't mind getting to see the various maps from a distance as I fly through the systems where they are located. :D

Other ranks take president of having a rank like mining ,smugling bounty hunting than that filth thats called CQC whitch is a seperate game and witch has no right having a rank showing in the main game.
In the same way that combat training is not part of the main game.

If you like PowerPlay, but dislike the existence or execution of CQC, fine. Your preference.

Me, I find fault with PowerPlay... but I've not complained about seeing other pilots' pledged power, right there on every single targeting panel. And, hey, I've somehow managed to avoid using the word "filth" in PowerPlay discussions to date.

Agree with you there CaptK - these people are so judgmental. I say, just get off your soapbox and play the game as it is dished up. Same as every other game that comes to market - you just play it. I mean, how silly is that wobbly jelly squish game? But people play it and don't complain. They just take it as it is - and play or not play as it suits them.
