Patch Notes Update CQC update (1.4) Stress test - Open build - Incoming

How will this stress test work for normal players (those without normal beta access)?
Will the beta show up on the standard launcher or is a new launcher required? How about a nice "how to" and a bit more information than just that it's accessible?

Run Launcher and it should be available in your list of installable programs (bottom left, besides big button). Choose ED CQC Beta and choose Install.

I've seen this discussed before, but cannot find the tips: Is there any way to copy the regular game over to decrease download times?

Afaik Beta has separate files, you can't do such copying over for it.

Actually you can, it's a tactic I use often as my download speed isn't the best. You'll likely save a couple of gigabytes of downloading by copying your FORC-FDEV-D-10XX folder and naming the copy PUBLIC_TEST_SERVER before starting your download.

Also once the update goes to the live server swapping out the folders will require a tiny incremental update for the live build.

Bit concerned about this comment "Make interdiction a bit fairer, it isn't so weighted in favour of the person being interdicted"

Is not interdiction already in favour of the person DOING interdiction OR this this just badly worded?

From what I understood from the bug reports, the interdiction was weighted AGAINST the player, regardless if you were doing the interdiction, or being interdicted... so NPCs would escape, or pull you out 90% of the time regardless how good you were before in the mini-game in 1.3. Now this comment doesn't address (or seem to comprehend) the issue completely... I'm a bit concerned too. There's still time for fixes though.

This my worry to Interdiction is already weighted so heavily agianst the victim making it "fairer" should be making the interdiction harder to complete. IF this is true this just one more reason to stay in solo or pve groups as this is a death sentence in open if it makes the cool down longer or even harder to evade entirely.

Just upgraded to the latest beta build, and now the game won't start. I click on [PLAY] in the launcher, but nothing happens. It turns a darker orange for a few seconds (the button), then back to bright orange as if I had not clicked it at all. No reaction at all. Not even an attempt at loading the game. Nothing.

EDIT: Yes, I filed a ticket. Just letting you guys know what can happen.

Have you validated game files?

Not just that. There are still many serious network related and acknowledged problems with it aswell.

I've noticed when a new build appears it wipes the networking config info that many use for port forwarding. Anyone know if the beta uses a seperate ini file or the regular one? Incidentally we could really use a setting in the game menus to set port forwarding or unpnp ;)

Have they even said the Servers are back up yet???

Same here

I just assumed they must be, as the Bug reports forum does already see the first reports rolling in from Beta 5 testers.

How do I do that? I never had to do that yet... not really a computer crack myself :-(

Click on first of small buttons (tool icon) on left and choose 'Validate files...' from their menu.

So I just checked the beta ini file and it was defaulted to upnp which I've now corrected.. This really is a problem imo.

This has been an issue going back to the earliest days of the beta. If ED is still dependent on upnp, there's going to be a lot unhappy commanders out there. You could still play Elite: Dangerous without messing with your config or port forwarding, you just might not see other players. But since CQC absolutely depends on connectivity with other players by nature, having even a small percentage of players out there who can't connect or can only partially connect is going to wreak havoc on matchmaking.

I noticed also that from beta 4 to 5 AppConfigLocal.xml with my custom network settings in it was delete by the upgrade process.

Also concerned about making interdiction easier for the interdictor.

Escaping interdiction from another CMDR is nigh impossible, even when I keep the escape vector dead center on target.

Escaping interdiction from NPCs is easy as pie (only exception is flying in a T9, which is fair).

Clarification would be much appreciated!
