CQC: What Is This?

I think the idea to make CQC more relevant to the main game has been made roughly the same number of times CQC has been mentioned on the forums.

Agreed. For myself, I enjoy CQC (I'm no good at it!) but I'd like to see the in-game rewards of CQC league winners pushed skyward so 'sports stars' can appear in Galnet, earning silly money, dating Aisling Duval, sponsored by core-dynamics, silly tabloid stories, so on and so forth as world building fluff.

Today is actually Cabbage Day, for some reason.
No.... pull the other one :D

I'm fine with the dislike of CQC, we are all individuals, I think it is stupid, crazy fun...

I just find somewhat pointless a post being made to the effect of "I don't like X, the developers shouldn't have wasted their resources making it" , while ignoring that other players of the very same game being debated think feature X is fine and good...

The whole game is exactly what we have today... some bits great, some less so, complaining because it is what it is rather than whatever one's interpretation of what it could/should be just seems so petty :)

Maybe I'm just turning into an old fogey, but complaining just for the sake of complaining is getting a bit old with me, and that isn't just here :)

The initial idea was that you would have to do some special missions for each Engineer. But as so often, time was short and instead of missions we got "deliver X t of [Rare commodity]", "jump Y Ly", etc.

Probably a bit of both.
Right?

I have to say, I like Elite. A lot. I don't think its developers do, though. There is no energy here. No commitment to continue developing features and making them deeper and more appealing. You have CQC and a lot can be done with it that would require a minimal amount of programming so that maybe more than the 15 guys I've played it with in the last 2 days would start turning up. But it was abandoned on launch.

No tournaments happened. Nothing new was added. Nothing was improved. It was just put out to pasture and then ignored as it grew anemic.

I would like to see it tied into the galaxy. A place you can go, Arena style world where msybe the Pilots Federation hosts events and you participate via telepresence. Get sponsored. Lets put all the power play modules as cqc rewards instead. The skys the limit...
I wonder how many people know that by gaining a Prestige rank in CQC you gain permit to CD-43 11917 system , where you can get 30% discount on weapons, modules and small and medium ships (according to wiki page).
This is probably the most exclusive place in the whole Galaxy, since there's probably not so many people interested in CQC enough to reach that rank :p

The one elite rank no-one seems to want gives access to a FDL with 30% off and the same discount to stock it up with modules / WMD... so a 30% rebuy reduction too... yummy!

So regardless of the state it is in, it is still something I want to partake in after I get triple Elite. The few times I tried I ended up waiting and just gave up.

Is there a peak time frame that is good to aquire cqc games with less waiting?

Usually 6pm - 11pm UTC for DM's, TDM's are more rare but you can sometimes get one at around 7pm UTC (however they tend to fill up quickly). If you join the CQC Discord you'll get an alert when an organised TDM is starting.

It's things like this that make me argue that this CQC is dead and has been for some time. Been that way 6 months post CQC launch, a shame really.

It flounders because it is a stand-alone game. As has been said many a time, if you could jump into the qeue whenever you were docked for a match here and there, it would be an entirely different story.

Waiting for modules to transfer? Waiting for the mission board to update? We've all been there, sure would be nice to drop into a CQC match while ya wait . . . Sure beats logging out and exiting the game in order to re-launch the game for a match.

Add CQC rank in game with the other 3, along with decals and perhaps even some rank locked modules for small combat ships and baby, you got a stew! If you could unlock Small Plasma Repeaters with CQC rank, you would have no issues getting matches.

I get the feeling the people who dislike CQC are just rather bad at it. You really need to know how to handle a zippy little ship and control LOS. You can dislike how it's implemented in the game but if you don't like tearing around in those fighters there's something broken inside you.

I'll never forget FA-off flip-turning a corner and boosting right up along the side of one of the structures at max speed along a narrow trench to blast out the other side, all to lose a ship on my tail who couldn't cut the turn and ended up trying to find the way around.

I like CQC, I hardly play it though.

I play it occasionally when I'm watching say a streamer and they do CQC for a bit and I'll join in, imho it's most fun with people you know.

I do think it being a separate game mode is a big barrier to entry, it's not really integrated into the game in any meaningful way, it's not really part of ED hence all the complaints when the CQC rank was added to the right hand panel along with your combat etc ranks.

Personally I don't think it's under developed, I think it's great for what it is, it's just drop death-match fun in a small ship. If Frontier were to do cross play then CQC should have it first IMHO.

Mostly I think complaints about CQC are that it's totally unrelated to your main game. It could very well be a whole different account. It'd be nice to have it impact you in some way and interact with your game. Get missions on the board for things in CQC. Get materials rewarded for kills/assists. Something to get more folk in there.

Totally agree.

IMO If they would just add a queue showing how many players are attempting to start a CQC match, a lot of players wouldn't feel like they are the only ones and nothing is going to happen... or an NPC that keeps the CQC going, would be a great improvement.

But just like GalNet, the Coms system, Mega ship Missions and every patch creating problems that should have been caught... I don't think they have any CMDR FDev that has played the game enough to know or care. If only another space game had such great sounds, graphics and V/R capability....
