Crashing into objects is too forgiving

This I think should be toned up a little. I had a few serious "now I am fcked" moments and they all resulted in just bouncing off with zero damage taken (be it crashing into landing pad/station door or cargo scooping in mode).

It sort of depends on how good your shields are, but I find it's usually either you bounce off lightly or you get torn a new one.

Heh, pity you weren't here back in alpha/beta when one of the larger complaints was that the object/crashing algorithm was too harsh.

Then they fixed it :D

I agree. It used to be much better in early beta.

I made a short video demonstrating how low risk crashing is now.

Just look at the video. This is indeed not fine at all. Who needs precise landing when you can just crash into the pad and be done.

they reduced hull damage by 50%+ in Beta 2 because the players asked for it. you can find it in one of the patch notes in the patch forum

I'd rather have it be at the level it's at now, than at what it was at before.

A compromise wouldn't be too bad though; make it unlikely that someone will die from a collision, but make it easier to take hull damage. Dying from an NPC flying into you isn't fun at all, but not taking any damage from it is a tad silly too.

Yeah. It got toned down so we could crash in peace. :)

Heat damage the same.

Infact you have to try very hard to get yourself killed. I think its why lots of people sold there shields for a cargo rack.

I'm not seeing the same resilience in my Asp. Which might be because I only have class 5C shields and usually only have 2 pips in them. That ship in the video might have a 16m credit 6A shield and he's got 4 pips in it. In which case I'd say there is nothing wrong with it being quite resilient to medium speed collisions.

I do suspect that the buildings in the stations do less damage than other cases. I'd love to see those tests repeated but crashing into the outside of the station (or asteroids) with a B or C class shield and just 2 pips in it.

I haven't tried the docking computer since its first iteration but if they didn't change the way it landed then increasing the collision damage would kill anyone using it pretty much every time...as I remember, once it lined up with pad it would simply slam into it.

Maybe we need an option in the functions menu to toggle crash damage off and on, they can put it underneath the interdictions off/on toggle that I'm sure is coming at the next patch.

You do have all pips in shields.
You have to think about those little bumps compared to maybe multicannon rounds slamming into your shield.
