Crashing into objects is too forgiving

Some are full pips in shields, some not. It wasn't particularly scientific, I might do another.

Regardless if I hit the pad at 200+ with full shields I should still die I think, but this is not the case. I would suspect if I hit the outside of the station as mentioned above then I would be destroyed. I'm not sure if they've weakened impacts inside stations (which would be ridiculous) or what. Needs more testing.

I was inside an orbital for takeoff. I goofed and hit the boost button right after thrusting up off the pad. I could not make the exit hole and I bounced off the wall and died.
Stock Cobra, full shields, 2 Sys 4 Eng
I was so bitter with myself.

1 day before launch I had an NPC cobra ram me in my asp. I was killed instantly.

Frontier had just increased rebuy costs by a lot a few minutes earlier so I didn't realise that I didn't have enough for the rebuy. I lost a 44m credit asp down to a sidewinder.

A few hours later the change to rebuy costs was reversed........

When i'm bounty hunting with my viper I kill most sidewinders/eagles by ramming them at full speed, without taking any damage, in order to save ammo.

Yeah it could be toned up a little...

It's a conspiracy I tell ya :)

I think the crash damage is about right at the moment.

It makes me laugh though when you're rushing and you come in far too hot, bouncing skidding banging into the landing pad and she says docking successful! Hah! Hardly!

People whined for collision damage to be nerfed and it was...to 2/5ths of the original, if I recall correctly.

Honestly, I thought the old damage was fine.

It doesn't need changing, I just wiped out a class A shield cobra with military bulkheads after slamming into an asteroid while fighting in a resource extraction site, just bang, dead ship. If you think that needs changing you have rocks in your head.

I agree. It used to be much better in early beta.

I made a short video demonstrating how low risk crashing is now.

as said above remove your shield boost out of station and if you are a suzper hard bada.. you turn OFF your monitor while boosting out off station . ah and not to mention a weekly click on clear save beacause otherwise you will "finish" the game too early...... some people out there have RL jobs and cant farm a week for repping a ship w was destroyed by crashing in a stationwall beacause of rl problems or lag etc etc. keep in mind not everyone is jobless and can play 20 hr s a day like some other peps in this forum

well, yesterday i was going in too fast, did not make it to the letterbox. so i decided to turn around with my cobra and did not see another CMDR in an eagle so i rammed him. have A shield, no damage to my shields but that eagle lost his shield and only have 50% hull left. sorry for that CMDR if you read this.

I am a software engineer, working 40h/week. Still want collision damage change. How is this even relevant to having a job?

High collision damage was a thing in the early betas; you'd frequently get wiped out by enemy and ally alike, and it would often come at you from your blind side, i.e., it wasn't all just jousting collisions. It was cr_p, frankly. Docking was by far the riskiest thing in the universe and bitter dipsticks in their free Sideys would be ramming millions off other players' accounts by being- well, by being dipsticks.

Ramming damage needed to be contextual, i.e.: when you're in a deadly situation, such as combat, then the effects of ramming should be highly dangerous; however, when in a non-combat situation the effects of ramming needed to be embarrassing, perhaps even inconvenient, but nothing more. That is achieved by reducing impact damage and having ramming result in a loss of control: when in combat a loss of control is nearly as good as giving free hits to your foes, but when docking a momentary loss of control is recoverable and allows you to go on about your day.

TL;DR: It's better now than it was.

Your are like a 200ton or more ship that can take high energy weapon damage, can engage in ftl travel (which would need massively high quality materials to not burn up), have a huge energy shield around you. I feel its highly dumb to take massive damage by crashing into something unless you are going extremely high speed (turbo boost inside station).

Also you will be thankful you don't when some ahole npc blocks the gate to a station. and you don't notice.

I had one moment yesterday at around 12 million mps when I thought I was aimed just slightly to the left of a planet (was aiming for the station that orbits it) but then suddenly the planet flew straight at my face with the sound of a gunshot. I almost had a heart attack. Thought for sure it was a spectacular death splattering my atoms all over that planet but no...I was quietly placed just above the planet and sheepishly warned "too close".

Give it a try. Its quite an experience ;)
