Credit sink solution and Engineering fix

Just a random thought but basically this;

Engineering

All engineering blue prints are "unlocked" in the sense that once you have developed G5 dirty drives then simply go back to the engineer to "buy" that module again with credits (like guardian blueprints) so once you have "discovered / unlocked" G5 you're free to install that modification on whatever module you want.

Credits

Basically buy materials, traders will flog 1 of this for 6 of that so why not accept credits, price to be discussed but why isnt it an option , you would still need credits but its a different route to engineering rather than relying on the RNG of finding the right materials to harvest.

I would be more inclined to get on board with this but theres one small yet seismic issue i see with it
Small Seismic charges Small Seismic charges Small Seismic charges Small Seismic charges Small Seismic charges Small Seismic charges Small Seismic charges
I would tend to agree.

I think it is fine as it is, being able to blueprint modules instead of having to travel for each mod is easing enough

Thats better now we can discuss.

I would just like to say yes please to both points. That is all

Once you've unlocked the blueprints of a specific engineering upgrade then I don't think it's a bad idea to spend credits to get that same upgrade again later. I like the comparison with the Guardian FSD module, it makes sense imo.

It's not like engineering is difficult, it's just time consuming. I don't mind gathering materials every now and then but grinding the same materials for the same blueprints that I use often (FSD increased range, Lightweight sensors/Life Support, etc) is just kind of getting old.

Maybe as a compromise do the engineering upgrades at a reduced cost (material wise) for some credit investment after already having unlocked them?

thats exactly how i envisage it working, ie you still need all the materials to go through the unlock tree below;

but once you have max G5 unlocked then each additional module is bought with credits, special effects can still be left with materials

I don't mind mat collecting for engineering. It often forces different types of gameplay on me. Scanning data points at installations for cracked industrial firmware for example.

What definitely does need fixing is the HGEs. I find I have no issues getting hold of core dynamics composites (and one or two others), for example, but pharmaceutical isolators are another thing altogether. That needs sorting and I'm not sure the increased HGE spawn from the last update was enough.

i dont mind the mat collecting in small quantities, as you say it gets you to play other types of gameplay, but to make you keep repeating that gameplay when you dislike it is almost a punishment, and when you're engineering your 3rd or 5th ship its hell.... if you only had to collect the materials once the whole HGE issue would also disappear overnight.

not to mention the whole player experience would be 1 million times better, and easier to understand for new players

If so, creditmaking and spending needs a complete remake, e.g. either take away a zero in the profit of VO and such mining or make it so a mining op is done through a weekend not a couple hours to make a billion credits. Also, multiply the cost of repair, refuel and rearm 10 times, and so on. Credits needs to mean something again. There should also be a maintenance cost on your ships, withdrawn every tick, credit and G1-2 material.
The initial cost of the entrance blueprint you unlock should also be multplied X times, and it should be more difficult to find materials and data.

At that point I could be inclined to get along with this.

I'll find my coat🥼

Then dont do it. Nobody said you needed overpowered modules. Every upgrade has a small drawback for that reason.

If we don't need overpowered modules then why did they implement engineering??
I guess we need them after all, don't we?

We don't "need" an Anaconda either. The Sidewinder is good enough for everything.
See were this is going?

And it's not the engineering itself that I hate, it's the way we have to do it. Separately for each
stinking module. It's an IQ depleted mechanic. Don't even get me started on the Mat Traders.
The same genius who came up with engineers designed them too.

6 Seleninum for 1 Tin? They must think we're chumps!

X.

This has kept me awake on many a long night: how do materials dealers make any money if they don't sell their wares? Concerned citizens should be taking this up with their controlling faction as a matter of urgency.

Not gonna happen. Frontier decided that gathering materials is one of if not the main game loop and it's part of almost all aspects of the game.

Credits are out of control, material grind is easier to keep on a leash for Frontier.

Materials are like another currency in my eyes and i'd rather have more ships, weapons and modules to use my credits on. Fdev have let mining be too profitable for to long and i want no part of it!
