Cross platform for Squadrons

Hi,

I was disappointed to see that Squadrons are not cross platform. Yes, we could create the same Squadron on each platform but then managing that could be a challenge.

An argument for keeping Squadrons platform independent is that then each squadron can work to an achievement on their own platforms leader boards. And I see this and think that is a good thing. So I was at a dilemma, How can the current Squadrons system work but allow some sort of cross platform interaction. After all, If my actions on one platform are supposed to affect all others cross platform, then it makes sense that each squadron would exist once in the galaxy/universe cross platform also.

Do FDev intent to expand on the Squadrons in the future?

I would love to see a guild/faction/corporation system that would bind all the squadrons together across all platforms. It would make sense to. For simplicity lets just call it a guild for now. So a guild would just be an administration link between the independent platform squadrons. Each guild would consist of 3 squadrons (PC, XBOX and PS4). Each squadron could continue working towards its own platform leader boards. some sort of cross platform communication system would be in place. How FDev would achieve this I am not sure, but they are the wiz kidz here. It could be in game, or of that is not allowed due to console manufacturers, then maybe an in game link to another out of game communication system available to all platforms.
The guild would be run by maybe 2 people. The guild owner and a second in command. They have overall control of each Squadron. Then, the Squadron system can continue as it is. (maybe fixing the constant "Squadron chat is not currently available" issue though). The guild leaders could then direct their efforts as a guild, task squadrons individually or just allow the squadrons to do their own thing until needed.

For clarity; the three squadrons would all need to be called the exact same on each platform. Same name and same tag. The Guild sets the faction to follow or super power and that is reflected across all squadrons (platforms).

The above may now be difficult to implement due to the way Squadrons was rolled out and implemented. But fingers crossed it is possible.

I just think this would have more of an inclusive and galactic feel. After all why can I see what CMDR Anonymous_XBOX has discovered when I have no affiliation to him but I can't see items bookmarked by CMDR Gus_PC when I am using CMDR Gus_PS4 and we are both in a Squadron called BobbleHeads?

I would appreciate some feedback from FDev about if there is currently any plans to expand Squadrons and what that could be.
I would also be interested in other peoples thoughts and views on this.

Regards,
Gus

Unfortunately, this is not likely to happen. The lack of cross-platforming isn't FDev's fault, it's the fault of Microsoft and Sony (though Microsoft is remedying this). But don't expect Sony to be cooperative because they are not and have no history of being a consumer-friendly company. Sony's platform is shut so tight (closed system) and they have repeatedly gone on the record saying they have no intention of cross-platform play. While not friendly to consumers as a whole, it is a shrewd business model—you want your buddies to play with you, they have to purchase a Sony system. Granted, all players manipulate the same BGS, every other feature is limited. I could be wrong, though, and let's hope I am!

It seems like Sony will reluctantly allow cross-play on a case by case basis. I am not sure the public outcry generated by Elite players would be enough to convince them to enable it for this game as well, but who knows. At some point it may be more inconvenient to manage the exceptions.

There are cross platform games already. Besides, I am talking about an in game link of squadrons and communication. As I said, other aspects of the game are cross platform already.
