Horizons Cross Platform Play

I am trying to get a handle on the problems encountered when trying to play with friends that and using something other than a PC.

I have 3 local friends that all use consoles. Two are on PS4 and the other one is on XBox S.

Two specific questions come to mind.

Restrictions/Limitations on WING OPS??

Restrictions/Limitations on MULTI-CREW?

Dating myself here.. I got off my Atari as soon as I could get onto a VIC20 to play games so I have NO experience with what the consoles can or cannot do.

Console makers have to protect their walled gardens because money or something. Or in Sony's case, prestige, going by some comment by a boss a while ago. There are no technical limitations, its just corporate bullplop. We only share the galaxy and BGS.

Correct. PlayStation, Xbox and PC versions of the game do not connect to each other.

Well. All three of them are now asking about how I built two PC's that meet the recommended system requirements for the game for less than $700.00 each.

One is even looking at selling his console collection, to raise the money.

MS wants X-play. Sony was making good noises about it a while ago after lots of people called them crazy for saying no. It might happen yet.

I love it everytime I hear someone say this. :)

Not sure what you love, but in the next few days I will be placing the orders for the first of the next PC systems.

I have demonstrated one of my systems with a GTX 745 OEM which is about 45% of recommended as a GPU sitting right next to a machine that is otherwise identical except with a GTX 1050 OC TI with both machines on identical monitors.

This guy is willing to take a GPU of similar specs to the 745 so I think I can get him going with a X3D Pro Joystick for under 400$. That means he might pay less for a PC than he paid for one of his consoles.

That will give him a LOT more play-ability using Voice Attack and a separate large key keyboard since he, like me has some fingers that don't have any touch sensitivity making small hat switches barely usable. He can upgrade the GPU later after he upgrades his monitor which wouldn't make full use of the 1050 anyway.

It’s great when non PCers have someone helpful and knowledgable, willing to guide them in and avoid the potential for buyers remorse, or other more technical frustrations.

I remember the days when I used to buy my pc’s from Curry’s! Then the internet came along and I discovered people online willing to educate me. :)

The machine they will get from me will have WIN7 Pro as an alternate OS, so they will have the Windows Movie Maker tools to post up videos and pictures from the game.
It will have Chrome and Chromium browsers with one pre-bookmarked to game related sites.
The machine will be cleaned of all the WIN10 Malware.
The other browser will be pre-bookmarked to a site that tracks the Windows 7 updates and watches for more malware.
It will have Chromium and Chromium browsers with all the game stuff pre-book marked on one of them.

It will also have Linux Mint Cinnamon 19 as the default OS with Chromium and Opera browsers.
This OS will be set to do automatic level 1 and 2 updates.

Doing all this is part of why it takes a week to 10 days for me to build one.
I have to find and order a refurbished MT Dell quad core i7 or i5 that has at least a 265 Watt Gold (or better) power supply that the refurbisher will ship with Win7 Pro or Ultimate.
Dig through the web for a used GPU comparable to the GTX 745 Oem or if they have a good monitor already and are willing to spend more money, watch for a sale on a GTX 1050. The bottom of the line 1050 will get 90+% of RECOMMENDED while my Zotac GTX 1050 OC TI pushes 112% of Rec. A 1050 will sometimes cost more than the PC.
Since Linux Mint updated from 18 to 19 since I made my last bookable USB I will have to make the new one.

When they aren't a charity case like this guy because he is on disability, I tack on 10% for my trouble.

Ok. Just put a DELL 790 MT WIN 7 PRO, 4GB ram, 160 GB HD, with an i5-2600 quad core on order. $198.00 after shipping. Was not able to find out if the PWS is the Gold 265 WATT version but if all I am going to put in it is something like the 745 OEM, the standard PWS will handle it.

SCORE!! Just picked up a second Dell 790 MT WIN 7 PRO, 4GB ram, 250 GB HD, i5-2400 quad core with a DVD-RW $158.00 with shipping. The refurbisher is offering to put a GTX 1050 TI OC in it so it must have the GOLD 265 Watt PSW.

Ok, One of the things that happens when I search for computers is that I watch the refurbisher/liquidator sites. They usually offer up 10-20 of some machine that they have bought from some medium sized business that has upgraded.
They set a price and if the sales are slow, they start lowering the price. I watch until they only have 2-3 of something left and place my order, sometimes offering 10% less and they will usually take it.

Then sometimes what happens is that those last 2-3 machines will fail the pre-shipping tests and the refurbisher/liquidator will offer a "comparable machine". That has happened on both of these deals.
The first one they asked me to add back the 10% I was originally discounted bringing the price up to $218.00 with shipping but they have upgraded me to a DELL 990 that had an original cost of $247.00 so I am still getting a very good deal. This will be my third computer from them and they know that I look for the 265 Watt GOLD or better and they told me this one has it.

On the second one they offered me a DELL 390 and I refused so they are refunding the money.

There were rumors that several big developers are pushing Sony to allow crossplay. The only one who went public was Bethesda for Fallout 76, with no crossplay right now and due to the game bad reviews and customer dissatisfaction, it may never happen. MS seems a little bit more open to the idea but it won't support it until Sony does, I think there is a beta for Fortnite but I think it is only an exception due to the popularity of the game. Frontier not being a big name has little possibilities of accomplish it.

To make it a reality for all or most games, it would need heavy pressure from publisher giants EA and Activision at least, but they will probably only look after their published products only. A decisive player would be a Japanese publisher, like SEGA or SQUARE ENIX, coupled with a loss of market share for the PS4 and its eventual succesor.

I don't hope for Elite crossplay anytime soon.
