I want to play Elite: Dangerous on both my PC and Xbox one. I would buy an Xbox version of the game, but I cannot justify it right now since I would lose all progress from PC.
I know you have one time transfers, but that is not a solution for me because I want to play on PC sometimes and on Xbox other times. If I was able to continue progress cross platform, then I could buy additional Xbox copies to play with my family and tell my Xbox friends how awesome the game is so they could play with me too. There is one thing holding me back from this purchase: I have invested too much time in the PC version and I don't want to start over on Xbox.
The state of cross-platform gaming has changed significantly over the past few years. Maybe it's possible to do this now when it wasn't before?
I'm not going to say it should be easy when I don't know everything involved. I am only saying there might be a lot of people like me. If you can find a way to enable cross-platform progression, those people would buy a bunch of Xbox copies for them and their friends. If the issue is with Microsoft's policies, maybe it's worth a call to Microsoft asking them to change?
I don't need cross-play (though it would be nice). I can switch to Xbox to play with my Xbox friends. I just want to permanently link / merge my accounts so I can switch between systems while maintaining my progress. Without that, any time spent playing on my secondary platform feels wasted.
Thanks for taking the time to read this!
