cross platform unification?

Rubbish - I played cross play from my PC with PS4 players just a few weeks ago in Star Trek Bridge crew.

Then there are:
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn
DC Universe Online
Rocket League
War Thunder
Paragon

There are likely others too. Some PC games has cross play with PS3 too. Elite could easily join that list, no idea why it hasn't - the game really needs it imo.

Sorry to say but seems I was correct in why Sony do not want anything more to do with CP. If you're still not convinced I can find at least a dozen other interviews where Sony say the same thing. Maybe next time don't be so fast to bring up the few exceptions and listen to what is being said - Perhaps research or ask why yourself and then you get to learn a bit more beforehand.

Cross play regarding Xbox and PC is up to Frontier now i think.. i would love it.

Got a few friends playing on PC, and i would love to join them.

even if sony were not (like all japanese companies) pretty insular and protectionist, so in theory if they did say yes, it also depends on the game. for example, console players of star wars battlefront may be allowed to play with users of another console (were this not the thing sony is really against anyway) but NOT PC players. this isnt down to the excessive hacking on PC and protecting console owners from that - its because console owners have aim assist due to using controllers where the PC are all assuming to be using mouse keys and thus the pc version doesnt even have a legal aim assist option even for people like me who play it with a controller on pc. sony's attitude problem (which is going to be their undoing with their short-termist outlook) is why xbox and ps crossplat wont happen. xbone is their direct hardware competitor, more than PC.

Regardless of if you want it or not Sony have said No. Why? Well they have a contract with all the PS owners to protect them while they play games which they are using as an excuse to try and maintain market share as they are well aware that Micro$oft is about to leap ahead of them in terms of hardware ability linked to cross platform gaming with PC players. Although the PS system has more exclusives it's player base is about to be left out in the cold. Expect to see quite a few Xbox/PC games in 12 months time designed with cross play from the ground up.

Great, you played a few games out of the hundreds that could handle cross play. Now go tell the people at Sony that they are wrong and cross play is everywhere because personally I don't care one single bit about crossplay but I do have the ability to accept what is in the news.

Play with your mates all you want still will not change what SONY have said one little bit.

I saw it. Saying "exceptions" still doesn't change the fact that cross play is perfectly possible and works flawlessly.
Sony and MS change their minds about what they are and are not doing more times than I change pants, which to be fair could be more often but is still fairly often.

I'm sorry if I'm aggravating you but the OP literally said this post is about if we want it, not on the specifics. 2nd post in and you went totally off topic, what Sony have or haven't said on cross play is totally beyond the point. Crossplay is perfectly possible and I think would make a big difference to the universe.

It would certainly be nice for the player-base, but you and I know full well that Sony would never, ever agree to it. They're hardly known for being agreeable to such deals in the past, especially if the Xbox is also involved.

If this was a pve only game sure but cross-platform is bad in pvp PC players will have an advantage against console players so while I would love to fly with PC players while I play on my Xbox One it would suck having to fight a PC player in Elite Dangerous so...

Explain this advantage please, cus, as far as i know, besides 60fps vs 30fps on consoles, I cant think of any.

Yes I still say rubbish. If those games listed support cross play betwen PC and PS4 there is no reason why this one can't.

AFAIK, no HOTAS setup. HOTAS gives a distinct advantage over Keyboard/Mouse players already, so I suspect HOTAS vs controller .. simply no contest.

...console is better fer FPS games because the controller is much easier to use...and proven to be more effective in some games like this...I use an xbone controller on both accounts and yes, it really is superior to keyboard and mouse and Ive used both fer literally decades ^

For some, maybe. I can barely shoot the ground with a controller. Dual sticks for aiming? No thanks. I can't console FPS for biowaste. Mouse and Keyboard though, totally different story.

I find console/controller to be great for RPG's like Final Fantasy n+1, Star Ocean, or fighters like Tekken n+1 - but I will admit, I have seen people do it and do it well. I'm just not one of them.

If we get crossplay with consoles, we should have the icon for a platform when we're scanned, so I can rightfully punish anyone silly enough to use an Xbox.

It'd be really good for the game.

That is, however, until ED outgrows the current console generation, and all us PC lot are back on our own again until the next generation of consoles and ED players form along.

Frankly it's about time the platforms all shared the same game space. And not just in ED.
I have an older Battlefield game and so does my brother, but we can't play with/against each other.
I certainly don't want to have to buy a specific console to play a particular game.
I went with the PC option as being the most flexible, but with most games coming out for all platforms, why separate the underlying server side "universes"
