cross-platform?

in David Braben's AMA, he was asked about cross-platform play but the answer was kinda vague:

the question was whether an XBoner could play against his friend who was on PC (as in, ships in the same instance) but the answer did not clarify whether it was just same universe, or actual cross-platform interactive play

can we get an official line from Frontier on this?

I've been really hoping for cross-platform myself, my only friend who plays Elite is on XB - currently i can't even find & add him as a friend in the game...

Apparently it's just the background simulation. PC users won't actually be flying around with XBone players.

No crossplay at the moment, but they have clearly lwft door open for that in future.

PC and MAC plays together and XBoners plays alone. They said you cant play with PC/Mac players if you have XBone

…and if they implemented Cross-Play, they would only fragment their player base further: CP only works between Windows 10 and Xbox One, so players on older versions of Windows and Mac would be left out.

so, upgrading to W10 means possible crossplay with XB?

That's up to Devs. But windows 10 was built to play very nicely with Xbox and direct x 12.

somewhere i think it wouldnt be fair, better hardware helps with winning. render distance and such..

Yea, it's a good point. That's kinda how all PC games are now. I know players of BF4 with power house PC's who drop the settings down to below Xbox one graphics to try and pick out players easier. Xbox is just like a lower end PC. The disadvantage would be not having HOTAS or track IR support. Keyboard and mouse drivers are coming this autum. I'm sure there are PC players now scraping the bare miniums that would be below Xbox one performance.

it sucks because most of my friends aren't PC gamers, they all play on console.

My brother only has a PS4, he is waiting for ED to come to that. Hoping that the PS4 version will be able to play in the same instances.
