Crossplay support on the roadmap, please FDev?

Hello Games did a lot of things more than FDEV in their game. Still you will find people defending FDEV saying "oh but Hello Games lied", "NMS is an arcade game", "you can't compare the two games", "... 🤬 bla bla bla"

I think NMS shouldn't be described as an arcade game, but its flight model is awful.

And the reverse of "Hello Games did a lot of things more than FDEV in their game" is also true - Elite has:
  • VR support and multiplayer from the beginning
  • extensive flight model
  • PvP
  • player factions & warfare
  • large-scale conflict (Powerplay)
  • dynamic economy
  • years of lore stories and community goals
  • vast ship and loadout customisation
  • huge variety of weapons and effects
  • instances support 100+ CMDRs
  • orbital mechanics
  • realistic star systems and constellations
  • ship-launched fighters
  • multicrew
  • alien "enemy" spaceships
  • server-stored saves (no savegame-editing)
  • multiplayer fleet carriers
  • player-controlled markets
  • multiplayer refueling and repair
Different games offering a variety of different gameplay and artstyle for different tastes.

Voilà 🤷‍♂️

What about the cosplay support?

I would personally need console to be able to use all the extra features third parties offer pc users like voice attack and game glass bring to ED before i feel it would be fair.

A console cmdr would be limited to keybinds whereas a pc cmdr could basically shout orders to it's ship giving what i feel is an unfair advantage.

Many crossplay games give players the choice to enable the crossplay feature, join crossplay matches, etc.

PS4 and Xbox CMDRs already play without Voiceattack; the latter isn't a requirement for offering the choice of crossplay.
But on console we arent potentially in combat with others who do have these advantages, is the point im making. In open against pc cmdrs, console cmdrs would potentially be at an unfair disadvantage

I would not be opposed to cross-platform if the playing field was level. Unfortunately, i dont believe it ever will be

Elite Dangerous already gives CMDRs the choice to choose who they instance with, via Open/Group/Solo and Friends/Blocking, so FDev can emulate other gamedevs and include giving the choice of enabling/disabling crossplay to CMDRs.

If you're saying "I don't want crossplay, so crossplay shouldn't be implemented at all" then I disagree. Giving players the choice is the better option imo.

What I am saying exclusively is that I would like cross-play to be fair if it's put into game.

PlayStation will never have this. The reason is it's two separate program's on PC. I have used "Voice Attack" along with "HCS voice pack" called A.S.T.R.A. and love it on PC. I will really miss it on PS4 when I play it at launch.

But it cannot be unless frontier makes such third-party accessories officially part of the games code

If we do get crossplay ill just be in pg where i wont be crossplaying anyways. It will make mobius that much bigger i suppose, so maybe i will, who knows at this time?

Im not against crossplay but i just want whats fair for everyone. Equality will never actually happen so my statements mean nothing more than words on a screen

I can understand that, but gaming isn't fair anyway: on PC alone there are a variety of different specs (frames per second, input lag), connection speed & latency, third party hardware (VR & head/eyetracking) & software (tablet apps, voiceattack), etc.

Crossplay shouldn't be held back because of the inherent unfairness that cannot be overcome, and thankfully the gaming industry is slowly changing their policy, with games rapidly adding the feature.

You would realistically never get parity.

Different controllers will have always sightly different advantages and disadvantages in any game, Elite or otherwise. Even within the realm of joysticks alone, their differences can make an impact in your gameplay. Game design can (and should) minimize that impact to an extent or even to a point where the differences are within the margin of error, but there will always be some residual differences even in the best of cases.

Crossplatform considerations therefore should not be held hostage to perfect controller parity imo, that is a bit of a red herring here, and instead should simply ensure that crossplatform play is optional and not mandatory (and add that variable to matchmaking logic), like in most cross platforms games currently out there. This way each player will have full control on the impact other players controllers may have in his or her experience.

Developers permit these unfairnesses. If im being 100% honest i also want cross platform as i only pve and these wouldnt affect me. In truth i just want the ability to use them myself 😉

With exception of kb/m all varied controllers is at least obtainable. PC Commander can use a controller or a hotas just the same as a console Commander can. They should at the very least allow for kb/m if they do crossplay

While I fully agree with you on the consideration of crossplay; as a PvP player, I am worried about voice attack.

For example, in a wing fight, Target Lock Breaker is devestating at times due to having to sort through 4 possible targets and then re-target said target's modules. On console this can be quite slow (not accounting for lag). With Voice Attack you can re-target modules in seconds. This puts consoles at a serious disadvantage in PvP.

As I mentioned, and I agree, full parity will never be realistically in. In some cases significantly so.

They key to enable/accept cross platform imo is to ensure it is also optional, like it is the case currently for most cross platforms games out there at the moment. This way each player will have full control on the impact other players controllers may have in his or her experience.

Crossplay would be great. The PS4 population is really not that high, so having a more lively galaxy and being able to meet more CMDRs would be nice.

As someone who is on PS4 you sometimes feel like the 5th wheel on the car (is that also an english saying?)... E.g. during DW2. There was a very nice PS4 community, but meeting a few more CMDRs would have made the experience even better.
