Crystalline Structure discovered in odyssey!

they don't have nav markers anymore. What's the stuff on the radar to the right, though?

First that's correct, we don't isolated forests, we get an entire planetful of shards, second, those white markers are the mats on the shards, they don't seem to appear mixed in with vulcanism as much now so that's a fairly dense patch of shards.

What's so cool about this crystalline "forest"? Why would this discovery be so important for EDC?

The old crystaline spikes in Horizons always dropped the highest mat level for that planet, so it was an easy way to stock up on high level mats, I guess the the EDC Discord community wants easy ways to collect mats.

In issuestracker is problem with shards sites marked as ‘fixed’… however it could be interesting to report here how that fix work. (I wouldn’t be surprised if it work differently to Horizons)

I've found crystalline shards multiple times in EDO. I've also found them in pretty big groups, like several dozens of "contacts" on SRV's radar at a time, around 150-200 in total for such group. Not sure how it compares to EDH "forests", never found/visited them in EDH.

However, I had issues with shooting mats out from them. In many cases I had to place my SRV at a very certain angle versus the structure to be able to shoot stuff. In many cases it was understructible regardless of an angle. In many cases it was underground. And if I succeeded, only G1 mats were spawning. Waste of time, in general. ;)

I haven't visited any shard planet after mats spawning fix, so no idea how they work now.

I haven't been to one for ages, though.. so wouldn't know if they disappeared or not, between the many patches.

the Crystal Shard Forests exists only in Horizons. In Horizons it takes like 30-40 minutes tops (from the moment you touch down) to fill the bins 0>150 for a top tier material
EDO has unmarked small groupings (3-7 shards, not all of them with crystals) spread all over. Guess it would take way more than 30 minutes to chase the small unmarked patches and fill up a bin

However, this seem to be regarded as progress in FD terms...

Getting in the right position to shoot the mats has always been a thing with the shards, often targeting them was difficult so I got used to targeting them with the turret, that was much easier.

The old forests were very dense and always mixed in with vulcanism, sometimes it was hard to drive around in them, but with a bit pf practice you could get very good at targeting and shooting the mats off.

Mind you instead of a few sites scattered across a planet we now have a planet full of them, and I haven't visited them since the mat drops were supposedly fixed so I can't comment there.

While so far I've been to only one shards body (hip 36601 c 1 a), I've had little trouble finding or collecting shards (polonium). Though I've had a little trouble shooting the shards off with my SRV (nothing new actually, that's part of why I never revisited the sites in Horizons), getting out and shooting them with my executioner does wonders on the stubborn ones.

Pity you can't collect them while on foot. Even only one at a time would be a big help.

its easier in horizons

Shard forests in Horizons is just one more reason why I prefer Horizons planet tech over Odyssey.
After waiting over 2 years for Odyssey and buying Odyssey thinking the new planet tech would be great then finding the new planet tech just boring and ruining what made exploring in Elite fun and exciting.

Now I only fly in Horizons.
