Look what arrived in the post....

Shiney!

(Engine detail is a bit scrappy on one of them, but that's just the limitations of the 3D printing process. Will give them a test run on a shirt tomorrow!)

Not rightly sure - feels like metal - they have a decent weight to them and they "chink" when knocked together.

Doesn't seem to be plastic anyway.

Reminds me of one of my hopes for the game. Years ago I believe there was a lapel pin you could get for becoming elite in game. I really really hope they offer an option to pay for something similar exclusively available to those who have reached elite in game...

real cool cuffs there

Defiantly have to do the pin for Elite Combat status players, they can all hang round together at conventions and growl at the n00b's :D

how much did you pay for them? and wouldnt mind seeing a 10p next to them to get a sence of scale.

They were about £27 inc shipping, from Shapeways - they do cobra models too!

They're about the same width across the fuselage as the diameter of a 10p coin.

Hope that helps - it's difficult to get them at a good angle to show it properly.

And they do Elite badges also - definitely going to order one of these: http://www.shapeways.com/model/574279/elite-wings-badge.html?li=productBox-search

And there are Oolite cufflinks too!

I bought the Elite badge in stainless steel polished it then electroplated it with gold.
This method should worlk also for the cufflinks.

Edit:

The material is a composite: they 3D print in stainless steel using an organic binder, to get something with the right shape but that is very porous and brittle. Then they infuse it with bronze to fill up all the holes, and then gold plate the result. Cufflinks are better than something like a ring for this material, because the gold plating will rub off given enough handling.

My forum avatar is a photo of something made using the same process as the cufflinks but without the gold plating. I have been making things through Shapeways since 2009. My stuff is at http://www.shapeways.com/shops/henryseg if anyone is interested.

love some of the models though tiny i like and at a price i would expect to pay, makes you think how much of a mark up the Official Elite models have.
