Curious about 'loaned' parts

Finally after a long journey, I'm docking at a station to test out the Advanced Docking Computer.

So happens, this station does not sell Docking Computer, so I bought a new Sidewinder to get it's Advanced Docking Computer. Just curious why it's marked with 'loaned' - seen this before but didn't bother me much.

It should only be loaned with the starter ship, not with a ship bought outright.
You don't buy the starter ship, its components (not sure if the ship itself is also) are loaned to you. When you buy a ship new, you own the parts, they shouldn't be loaned to you.

EDIT: thinking about it, it could be a work around because the station didn't sell a docking computer, so somehow, they've loaned you one (don't ask me how that works, I'm just trying to make sense of it).

All new ships purchased post-update will come with a 'loaned' computer.

My original Sidewinder still has 'loaned' parts.

It's no different from a normal part, except it has no value when sold. If the tag bothers you, simply 'sell' it fo 0cr, and purchase another at full price.

Nope. I cleared my save and started again with the new update. My starter ship had loaned parts, as it should. When I had enough to buy a Cobra MkIII, I did, and it has no loaned parts, including the Supercruise Assist and Advanced Docking Computer, which came with the ship.

Weird. I bought a new Sidey for the sole purpose of stealing a new ADC, and the part was loaned.

Generally nothing should be loaned on a ship purchased new.

Maybe it only applies to the lower tier ships?

It's probably because a Sidey would become too expensive if the ADC came with it as a non-loaned part. The way it is now the Sidey only costs 32k (or so?) with a loaned ADC. The downside being that you won't get any money for it in return.

On bigger ships the extra cost of the ADC doesn't really matter.
