Curious about Squads.

What are the benefits for joining a squadron? I’ve been playing for about 6 months and haven’t joined or even looked at them in any way. I usually just play in the option where I made a channel for myself and friends, yet it’s just me playing there. Gets a bit boring after awhile. Playing in a squad doesn’t mean I have to play with, and/or against other players? Mandatory mic use at all times? I’m not to keep on talking on the mic unless I need to. Plus I get pretty bad anxiety when joining anything that’s to do with things like a squad. But are guilds or clans. Same idea. Thanks for reading and for any possible answers.

Different squads have different rules. The one I'm in, the ARRC, aren't that bothered about folks who prefer to be left alone

But it gives the game more of a goal. And the green text comms comes in handy, You can send out a text message to everybody on your squad who are online, so that makes teaming up for wing missions or mining easier

Frank is right, they are all different and varied in their approaches to cooperative play or just hanging out. I was in a big one that exploded due to too much behind the scenes politics, but it was really varied, a kind of "do what you want to do, for as much time as you want to spend in-game" fellowship. I've been in stricter ones, some with a lot of effort concentrated on BGS (the in-game factions, territory etc) and some which just seem like chat groups. I rarely use a mic and none of the squadrons I was in mandated it.

My current one is largely run and populated by people I know and trust from a previous squadron, now oriented more along the lines of how we like to play, which is largely loose and relaxed but coming together to deal with BGS elements.

Some are strict on what Squadron bookmarks you can add to the Galaxy Map! It can get cluttered.

Some are organised around the Powerplay powers, though you can get involved in that just on Discord. Most squadrons worth their salt use Discord anyway for text updates out of game, and on-topic and off-topic chat, some even have web sites!!

At least if one doesn't suit, you can leave and join another. Eventually even a curmudgeon like me finds people I can get on with - and when I'm unsociable I can always ignore them :D

A major benefit for me is that while travelling on my carrier I can see that other players travelling with me that are in the same squadron as me are docked on the carrier (or not) even if they aren't logged in.

Being able to create & share squadron bookmarks is handy too.

Thanks for the reply. That helps me to figure out what Squadron I may want to join. As you’ve stated, if I don’t like it I’ll definitely not stick with it. Thanks again.

Thanks for the reply and advice.

Less risk to be outnumbered in PvP engagements... higher chances to outnumber the enemy.
