General / Off-Topic Curious...are you in the [Elite] IT Field?

OK, small play on words in the thread title...

I saw a couple other people who work in the IT field on another thread, so I thought I'd start a not-so-serious thread that wouldn't get too bogged down in the details of Elite design.

I am IT support at a large university in the US, going on 19 years now. Servers, workstations, software, hardware, network, mobiles, you name it.

Who else works in the IT field? Is there anything you're really looking forward to in Elite, from an IT point of view?

Hi Charles,

I'm a freelance IT Consultant (14 years), mainly project work for corporate clients.

I'm looking forward to hopefully making a contribution to the design of E:D in the DDF, and really looking forward to getting my hands dirty in the Testing phases

Working in IT here. I guess I see myself as the Systems Administrator for a small school, but I get mostly called the IT Guy.

One thing I'm hoping to see from Elite: Dangerous is complexity, a lot of variables and a great community. I'd be a happy bunny then.

I'm a developer. Started when I was eleven. I specialize now in lock-free data structures in C. Joined a startup as employee #1 two months ago.

IT database guy here, as a DB developer and DBA for 20+ years. Currently working as a contractor at the European Space Agency.

I work in IT Support too, and have done for the last 18 years :)

Work for a very large storage vendor, in one of their subdivisions doing security solutions, but previously did consultancy work, and before that a long stint of time for a Tier 1 ISP.

All in the UK and Europe normally, but often traveling worldwide too.

I have City & Guilds Level III Microcomputer Systems Installation & Maintenance which I got about 15 years ago - more so I didn't have to pay other people.

I am now one of the handful of people in my 300 strong workforce who people turn to for advice and help with their computers and mobile phones.

I also look after the computers for the companies social club.

I am a bit rusty though, and don't know anywhere near as much as people think I do.

Google is my friend ;)

On a side note, my brother-in-law is highly interested in the procedural programming side as he is a programmer/digital audio specialist turned lecturer. He has also written his own book - which is now published by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) - and here is the killer, it is on Procedural Audio

Tech Info guy here.

I'd be interested in the possibility of using a Wiki as the in-game system info guide and possibly having it auto-update based on the latest info from players' onboard systems.

Been working in IT for about 25yrs now, mainly in software development.

Currently the CTO of a software house, but I still manage to get my hands dirty with coding and SQL

I have the Mattel Aquarius (1739 bytes ram avail!) to blame, as it was my first computer, and very quickly I learnt Z80 machine code (sadly enough by numbers rather than mnemonics), moved from that into 6502 (when a mate lent me a C64 for the weekend so I could write a demo!), and from that onto 68000 & 8086, stopped machine code when I got lazy, and started using C and the likes

Good idea but what should we call it?

StarWars has the Wookiepedia

I am a MD for a PC component and systems retailer here in Manchester. Been doing it for 12 years in my current job and about 20 years overall.

More of a hardware man than software tho :)

oh yeah! I'm looking forward to some Alpha testing too! :)

Hi there.

I used to be in software development and then I had my own business for a while.

Now I work for a local school - Nothing to do with I.T. I really miss developing software as I love being creative.

I'm a Systems Support Tech for a local council. I spend my days administering, building and creating software and operating system deployment jobs for 1800 odd PC's with a sideline in technical software fault finding.

There's just me that does it but I'm paid the same as the person who sits across from me who doesn't know what the root of C means.... Bloody councils!:D

TA & Software Developer mainly using Java &f Scala, although in the past I have used a load of different languages.

Software developer here. Been developing for SharePoint for years, but now moving in to Windows 8 development.

seems there is a few of us around, but guess that is to be expected :)

Did a BSc in computing science and AI, got fed up with computers by the time I finished the degree and did another degree in electronics and comms engineering.
somehow ended up in IT though, mainly doing project work through outsourcing and worked across most of the UK, mainly in the oil industry. Anythign from desktop support to servers, networking etc.
Not done any programming since my uni days though, just a bit of basic scripting here and there.

like most of you, really looking forward to be involved in the testing process too :)
