General / Off-Topic Curious...are you in the [Elite] IT Field?

IT analyst in a big IT services company :)
I was a programmer years ago when I have started to work :D

Not that you'd call it IT

I am a simulator engineer, and I can blow stuff up daily should I feel the need :-D

To many iterations of types of computer equipment to count through my career

Another IT guy here. Been working in IT practically all my working life, since 1987!! :S
Work for a company installing, configuring and training users on software for Digital Signage and Call Centre implementations.

But to be honest it bores the pants off me most of the time. ;)

Currently teaching myself Tig (GTAW) welding. AC and DC. As my main hobby are my cars and I'm building a trackcar at the moment. Being able to fabricate stuff could save me money, and might just make a few quid on the side as well!! :D

Lead developer been working in IT 15+ years. Guess it was mostly computer geeks playing games like elite back in the day so not surprising there is a lot of us on here now.

I've been doing various system administration jobs for 19 years, with a little network admin and programming on the side.

I'm very much hoping to see a suitable amount of complexity in our gaming options (I want a realsticish market and hope that there'll be some form of crafting or invention). Yes, I'm one of the Eve infected.

Another IT bod here, coming up to 18years now. Non technical these days, more analysis, making use of my vast experience of breaking things over the years. Last techie thing I did was a little Citrix farm for 3000 users. Still going strong 4 years on :)
All the techie fun is in the mobile arena, watching Jolla closely ;)

Another IT guy here, 20 years or so in various jobs.... Currently working for a very large company, supporting the systems of another very large company.

We use Altiris/Symantec at the moment and if we hadn't spent a lot of money on 7.5 and some training we would have gone with SCCM.

Altiris... you mean there's still people out there using it? *faints in shock* ;)

As an aside, isn't this thread in danger of turning into an Elite LinkedIn?

Another programmer bunny here. Started off with a long spell at a particularly wonderful company, Trilobyte, followed by a mix of audio and video-related projects and embedded development (back to the days of dozens of K for program space, yay!). Now, a rather interesting R&D project producing a video codec that works in contourspace rather than pixelspace.

It seems the original Elite has got a lot to answer for...

Worked in Support for 10 years, then set up my own company for a couple of years and am now an IT Architect for a massive consultancy firm and I specialise in Web-based collaborative technologies... You know the one...

I'm in I.T. too

Started life as a developer, then Analyst, Project Manager etc for 22 years. 3 Years ago I went self employed, and am now a freelance I.T. Consultant with a business partner (less money but more fun).

We write bespoke stuff for companies, plus have our own software package which we market.

Who else works in the IT field? Is there anything you're really looking forward to in Elite, from an IT point of view?

I work as a software engineer and I hope that players understand that mistakes can happen. And that the problem sometimes sits in front of the screen.

For this reason, all the best for David and his team.

Global Head of IT for a financial software dev shop. I plan to spent my retirement being a pirate, Yarrrr!

Okay, who doesn't work in IT around here? :D

Alex
Ha! Awesome! Rep given! :D

OK, looks like everyone is getting out their IT war stories and eWangs - sorry I mean resumés! :D

Far too many years in the industry here.

I currently run my own little kitchen bench consultancy for various clients doing business development or grabbing contracts to pay the bills.

Currently talking for a living (Consulting Architect) on a biggish project to refresh infrastructure for a few thousand server applications. It's a bit of a remediation challenge and is doing horrible things to my gaming time but I can phrase "You're screwed" 200 different ways in Power Point.

Through a variety of misadventures I've spent a bit of time working as a play tester on a variety of AAA titles in the past so I'm very much here for the long haul on the start of our current hype cycle. I know what to expect. ;)

My current project is to cram a water cooled MiniITX PC into the case of a 1982 VIC-20....

....it consumes me.

I dont like computers
I Especially hate printers

I do like computer games though. :)

I think its quite interesting that the mainstay of this forum are 30+ somethings myself included who's lives have clearly been influenced by early days in computing i.e spectrums, amiga's etc, To the extent that people hae made a career out of it.

On that same basis i got a Degree in Computer Science in 2002. But after 3 months as a systems analyst decided id rather do something else/better :)
