Current mapped systems need to be reset to level the playing field

Out of all the games to pick to complain about this type of issue - Elite is the funniest with it's 400 billion Star Systems.

That we won't be able to map in 20,000 years.

Actually from a 2015 article - so there may be more players now but..

At the current rate of exploration, Elite's playerbase is visiting 17,585 new systems every day. That's 732 per hour, or 12 per minute.
At that rate it will take players 150,895 years to map the entire galaxy.

Buy more paint jobs. Don't just be part of the problem; be part of the solution! Clearly FDev needs the income that will allow them to stand up sufficient numbers of login and matchmaking servers! ;-)

I almost had first mapped on a gas giant and all it's orbiting bodies in Shinra but due to bad luck I got booted and haven't been able to get back in since. I'm 99% sure I'm not the only one who planned to play when the patch dropped and go for key first mapped bodies.

It's completely unfair that people who got lucky and didn't get dropped get their pick of any first discoveries.

Would you have complained if you hadn't been booted out?

I don't care about getting "first mapped" on the popular places, I want my name on places I've discovered, planets no one gas ever seen before.

Good luck to the tourists! :D

So the rush to get first mapped on key systems was completely luck based due to the servers. I propose they be reset again once servers are fixed in order to level the playing field and give people a fair chance at getting first mapped tags.

To be honest, the whole rush on the galaxy was luck based on who got somewhere first.
I propose they reset the whole galaxy so everybody has a fair chance. In fact, they should reset the galaxy every time a new player joins the game - it's hardly fair for them is it?

Frontier should just have let Jameson map the entire Bubble.

Oh how I would laugh.

:-D :-D :-D

To be blunt, I find it very immersion breaking that the settled systems in the Bubble were not "Discovered" / "Mapped" by members of the factions that settled those systems hundreds of years ago. Makes zero sense from a lore perspective to only have Cmdrs "discover" the Bubble in the last couple of years.

Well, as long as I keep my Codex entries for the Thargoid stuff - I worked hard for those :)

My thoughts exactly.

Now some CMDR is going to sell the fact there's a mountain to the people living next to it.

LOL. No. Why be so competitive? It's just a game. First come first served. It's just not that important.

mapped by, schmapped by

How about having beacons that you can place on an uninhabited rock with a message and POI for anyone who comes afterward to map and visit (and leave their own "Gizmo woz ere" beacon on)? If you lost the mapping because you were kicked off, that's bad. Losing the tag "mapped by"? Pfeh. Map another rocky body. There's some bare-ar*d rock in that system nobody else can be bothered to map when there's an ELW nearby....
But being able to leave your own "I claim this land in the name of my mother, and I shall name it 'the land'" would be as good as a "first mapped by" tag, but also something you can never have stolen from you.

I said from day one that "first discovered by" and now "first mapped by" were bad ideas and suck a lot of the fun out of the discovery process. I stand by that.

Well can all the people who aren't bothered by the first mapped by tag kindly stop trying to connect so that those who are interested in getting tagged have a chance of connecting, please. ;)

I think to be totally fair they should reset everyone's commanders as well! ;)

Let's just reset the whole game and everyone and everything starts from day 1. That way everyone gets a chance at a "first X by", there is no CR exploiting leading to billions of CRs, etc.
