Newcomer / Intro Current starting systems

Hello!

I'm a returning player and want to start a fresh career again. With respect to the starting system and the area for new players, I read a lot of conflicting information. I assume that most of it is simply outdated.

At the moment of this writing, I think it looks like this:
  • when starting your career from Horizons 4.0, you either get Asellus Primus or LHS 3447 as a starting system and start with 1000CR (depending on which Sidewinder you choose)
  • when starting your career from Odyssey, you get HIP 97950 (Chamberlain) as a starting system and start with 250000CR
  • the earlier starting area around Dromi/Matet, where you need a permission, is not reachable at all anymore

And that's all there is to say. It doesn't matter, whether I skip the training mission or not, or whether I switch between Horizons 4.0 / Odyssey.

Is this about right?

Thanks!
Sargon

Yeah - I had a check the other day in Matet and Dromi in both EDO and Live Horizons and not a hollow icon to be seen.

It looks like the FDEV team just couldn't give a monkey's about what their Shoot-em-up has done to the game. Honestly, things go from bad to worse.

EDIT: I checked just now in legacy Horizons and sure enough there are some hollow icons there. Since Legacy and Live are totally disconnected now, you can't even start in Legacy to get the permit for using in Live (doesn't transfer).

What do you mean with "a hollow icon to be seen"?

In any case, it's fine for me, if Frontier decided that the protected area for newcomers doesn't exist anymore (I assume it's intentional and not a bug). Just wanted to make sure I don't miss something obvious here.

On the radar, a hollow icon indicates a real CMDR, solid icons are NPCs. You don't see any hollow ones in Solo mode.

Man, that's a shame if it's intentional. I know the prevailing advice is to get out of there as soon as possible, but I really enjoyed my time in those systems when I started, and it felt like starting an adventure going off into the big wide galaxy after spending some time there. I also liked revisiting them when I started an alt.

@sallymorganmoore if you have a free minute to answer, was it an intentional design decision to "retire" the pilots federation starter area with Odyssey/Live 4.0?

Has anyone actually started a new live cmdr lately and checked where they spawn?
But that's exactly what I did. I started as a new commander and tried out both Horizons 4 and Odyssey. The starting systems are the ones I've posted initially. I simply wanted to check whether I missed something, because the older starting systems Dromi etc still exist - it's just that I saw no way to reach the original safe playground for new commanders.

Ah, yes, you do. :)

So now new commander starts in a system outside starter zone, and has no permit to that zone either.
Hard to know with FDEV if a bug or intentional, and if it applies to only in 'clear save' cases, or new accounts too.

Asellus Primus and LHS 3447, good old times. :)
