Current thoughts on the Anaconda ?

Conda is the most fun I've had since upgrading from the Cobra. It does take a long time to get all the upgrades that you want, but you can be a deadly force against wings of NPCs, and even some PC wings. Turrets will help to protect around the edges as others have eluded to already.

Mine is primarily outfitted for trade, with a little fighting thrown in for relieving any boredom (see signature). Once I hit the next level of trade though, I'm considering a combat built and work to push the combat levels up further...

How are you managing to run that with so many beams? Don't you instantly just fry the ship as soon as something is in range?

Just wondering if it makes a difference if the PvP happens in a combat zone or is part of pirating/bounty hunting? Different goals resulting in different ships being useful? Just a thought.
it can make a huge difference. Someone attacked my buddy once in a conflict zone. He didn't realize that the hollow triangle coming up to meet him while in that dogfight was a mad anaconda that waited until he was point blank to attack.
observant players this is less effective on but my buddy could always run to me if he needed help.

Not at all, I've only once caused minor heat damage to my systems, and that was right after the change was made regarding heat.

I put 4 pips to weapons when fighting single targets and I'm restrained on holding down the fire button. When there are more than one target, I let the turrets take care of those ships I am not currently killing (the weaker ships) and continue with the main target.

Remember, the turrets are only C1/C2, the main damage/heat is in the C3 fixed which are under my trigger control. Maybe when I get some more cash, I'll stick a C3 turret in the C4 slot, but not yet.

My Conda is bristling with beam turrets, so no effective blindspots. I have taken on fleets of up to 6 or 7 npc ships, including groups consisting of condas, vipers and cobras. Fill her with boosters and cell banks and her shield will absorb huge amounts of fire. But her real power is in her unnerving intimidation, when the unmistakable silhouette of the mighty Anaconda powers into your view then you know you've got trouble.

Sweet ride.

The best thing about my Conda ? I can push a freaking *T9* out of the mailslot. I just had an NPC one riding on my nose all the way to FSD clearance :)

That's close to the build I had in mind for my Anaconda. Any reasons, beside power management, not to use two large burst lasers. I thought they might be helpful to get the enemy shields down faster.

He'd get practical the same damage output with 3 Large Bursts, he'd alse get a better fire grouping. Idealy you want 2 Large bursts and 2 Mid burst, but the mids arn't in game currently which is a shame.

He has however, opted for a very defensive build, very power demanding hense being limited to Pulses.

It's a very good build to counter many small vessels. He will however have big problems with very high Alpha build Pythons, FDL and Anaconda. Espeically when they're running big banks of Plasma Accelerators. Because those C rated SCB's replinish the shields slower than the big Plasma's can deliver damage. And the high Alpha big ships seldom travel without escorts.

Once he's been on the end of 4 Big Plasma Accelerators he may change his mind and opt for something with a little more balance, but it's a good build for what he's aiming to do, tank lots of small ships.

It's not a bad idea to chuck a heat sink on a high Aplha build if you got a spare utility, espeically when packing Plasma's

I love my Anaconda, Its a great trader, nobody has bothered me since i have been using it, the only trading ship I have felt safe in.

If you trade get one. If you have more money than you need get one. If you want to use it as a battleship, don't bother unless you always fly in a wing. It is not a 1v1 ship.

when exiting the station, is it normal for the station to be firing infraction warnings at you left right and centre? i got that when i took mine out, i was dead centre of the station, part way out the mail slot, wasn't scraping or rubbing anything, still had around 4 minutes on the clock... and suddenly about 5 or 6 loitering warnings go off in quick succession. i landed her ok and none of this stuff happened during the landing, only during the exit.

i haven't been willing to take her out again since, in case the station decides to kill my new ship

It does that to me occasionally too. You're safe it seems to be a bug but because it never counts down nothing ever comes from it. Only happens in a conda.

great, if you survived it before then that's good to hear, thanks
its been my main ship now for a couple months give or take I got mine when they put out the hot fix to prevent station doors from destroying ships. The loitering warning still goes off when I'm flying through periodically. Seems to happen more when the pad is close to the door and I have to pitch the ship while I'm still in the door. It never amounted to anything in all this time. The snake hasn't bitten me yet so to speak but I doubt it will in the event that it does I'll have shadowplay catch it and send it in.

it seemed to me that every time i selected that ship was just as the station was blasting some NPC to bits, and i'd think to myself "i bet that NPC's hud had those very same warnings on it 2 seconds ago..."

Been flying my anaconda for two weeks now. While I appreciate the flexibility, and the raw firepower & shielding. A day hasn't gone by considering selling it again and getting my FDL back, only reason I haven't is because I don't wanna lose out to the 14 million before I know the new 1.3 ships prices.. Its kind of silly, it does everything really well, everything but make the game exciting. Closest is doing Strong Signal Sources. I'll probably need to do an Isinona, park the beast, get myself a Viper and start practicing that FAoff all the time.

i haven't used mine for combat yet - never even deployed the hardpoints on it. but it is making me 1 million a pop for a single 16Ly jump as a trader - i'll forgive it its other shortcomings based on that alone.

but i must say i find it a lot easier to take off and land than the Clipper** - the Clipper was bigger physically than i imagined it to be, i was always catching a wing nacelle in the mail slot by trying to turn before the ship was properly through. with the Anaconda i only scraped it very slightly once, and it's already made double the journeys i made in my Clipper before i scrapped that. Annie has never overshot the landing pad, or slid past the mail slot when lining up for entry - that happened several times in my Clipper.

for excitement, i still have my Cobra and Vulture.

** i said me. i realise everyone else loves the Clipper and the way it handles.
