While I deeply appreciate the new feature of map skirts, I still feel like the maps being out in the middle of nowhere leaves a lot to be inspired in terms of inspiration. I prefer to have the backdrop of a city or suburb before I start building.
Thus, I ask that Frontier allow its players to create their own skirts so as to give a map a greater sense that it belongs in a world. This would mean that Frontier need not worry about giving every player the specific map skirts they desire as that player could then make it themselves.
For example, if I wanted a zoo set in suburban middle America within a park, I could make it. Then, if I wanted a zoo within a park within a dense city with guest spawners disguised as metro stations, I can have it happen.
"If you want map templates so much, just download whatever's on the Steam workshop"
The reason that simply downloading a few map templates from Steam doesn't quite cut it is that, due to the complexity of the building, they take a long time to load. This can be a huge problem when you have builds with especially high piece counts as it'll take ages to load. My thinking is that if such buildings are excluded from the play area, they won't be factored in the loading of the game as much and this will cut down on loading time exponentially.
These features would be amazing to have to increase the ways people can express themselves and would make it far easier for people like me to get started. Especially because, if I can be quite honest, I'm useless when I stare at a totally blank map. I'm sure that many would agree with me.
Addendum: While you can use mods to put items outside of the buildable area, it would be ideal if such an ability to decorate was in the vanilla game.
