Custom nose art

I was looking at ww2 aircraft nose art. I thought it would be a good income flow for frontier if commanders could buy personally supplied/created nose art for their ships. It wouldn't affect any fighting or flying characteristics "not pay to win" but It would really class up my challenger to have a big picture of my wife " bouncing Betty" on the nose. LOL definitely worth some bucks. o7 all

LOL indeed! I suspect you realise that you've kind-of answered your own implicit question about why they won't be doing this - the suggestion of having people putting pics of "their wives" on their ships basically covers it ;) (The game isn't X-rated, yet...)

Hi :)

I was looking at ww2 aircraft nose art. I thought it would be a good income flow for frontier if commanders could buy personally supplied/created nose art for their ships.

I think so too(y), in fact I posted something along those lines many moons ago...I also thought it would be interesting to have an 'in game' art type program, fairly simple, and anything you'd designed could be paid for with Arx.
Two problems with this though are keeping designs to what Frontier thought was acceptable, but judging by some of the various names present in the game created by players I'm not sure if Frontiers vetting process is robust enough! ;)...

It's not a 'problem' as such but what would Frontier charge for these nose art creations?...I would think it would be substantial, even at a basic level they've surely got to create some sort of filter in the submitting process, and creations would be limited in size and format?

I'm all for the idea, but would it take a large amount of effort by the Frontier Devs?
I'd love to be able to create not so much a 'nose art' as you describe but more of a statement similar to my avatar's (Wild Deer Corporation) ...I suppose you could call it nose art, but anyway, a 'decal' if you like of the Deer, planet and the wording, perhaps designed more around a circular design...and slap it each side of the ships nose, or on the sides or top, just how you can with the current in game decals, ranking decals and ships names.
If the price was around the 1000 to 5000 Arx's mark for a custom designed decal I'd be interested. ;)

Jack :)

I think custom nose art would be unrealistic as each image would have to be subject to moderation. But a selection of pre-rendered nose art images World War II style would be great and achievable by Frontier.

IL-2 Pacific Fighters back in 2004 or thereabouts had about 20 non-risqué but authentic looking images (mostly ladies) that you could choose from to apply to US aircraft.

As someone who played that game a lot I agree that it could be done that way. However...that would open up the gate for a lot of weird stuff and stupid identity politics that I would rather not see in the game. In 2004 if you asked someone what a lady was you would get the same or very similar answer. Try that now. :) The moment they added 20 non-risky ladies as nose arts what do you reckon how long it would take for every fringe group to start rioting for wanting representation? Everything is a new battleground nowadays. I've seen people getting genuinely offended that the figure on the zebra crossing line looks like a man.

The annoying thing about this is Fdev have the people to make really good paintjobs in general see the one off Idris paintjob ( dragon paint for a clipper) a few years back . Even I would pay for decent nose art 👍

Apart from snake images which I think would be appropriate for many ships, there could be famous cartoon images. Betty Boop. Or Jessica Rabbit. She doesn't need moderation, as she is just drawn that way.

The Flying Tiger teeth would be good, especially with the eyes.

As an aside, the USN banned nose art.

The trouble with famous cartoon images is that they are mostly owned and FDev would have to pay for their use.
I did read something about copyright expiring (50-75 years) which was causing issues with some of the pre '50s(?) stuff, including music.

Would look great on the Corsair.

I believe that varies from country to country.

When I used to be more active in science fiction fandom I heard that in the USA it was 75 years after the death of the holder but that Disney’s lawyers were working on extending that to 75 years after the death of the universe.
