Custom paint job creator

So I was sitting around thinking to myself how it could be neat if you could use an in game customization option to custom paint your ships. Such as have different sections of the ships that you can reprint in different styles/colors. Even a step further, be able to modify already purchased paint jobs. I know we'd never see it because it could potentially lose revenue for FD in the paint pack purchases, but I for one would be willing to drop real $ on a tool like this.

I'd shell out some for that, too. I already have enough hours logged in ED as it is - if they released a tool akin to forza's paint feature I'd never shut my Xbox off.

I don't think they'd loose revenue. They're charging for custom pre set paint and it's usually just 300 credits.

1,000 for multi color kits per ship seem reasonable

they could do it and just make it a "pay to apply" payment. You could create as many paint jobs as you like but it costs X amount to actually use it outside of livery.

Effectively paying FD for a giant.... 'Anaconda'... paintjob on ships.
As bongo said. Call me cynical, but nope :D

Now, if they had a team/system to approve paints before they were applied, then maybe. But that might be cost prohibitive, when we all want resources spent on getting space legs and atmospheric landings.

Why haven't we seen something like this for Imperial ships , I'd happily pay for that if we can't do custom paint jobs as I would be adding these too Imperial ships and fed ships it would be a Ww2 theme

Because Frontier knows many people would pay for that and if they buy something like this they won't buy anything else from that point on. It's a business model. They only drip a few things every week so we may be tempted to purchase things all the time. When you think you have the best paintjob, they release an even better one a few weeks later. So you spend more money in the long run. If they released all the best content together everyone would spend some money then forget the store for a long time. Frontier needs constant revenue so they release content one at a time. Paintjobs you show may come but only way in the future. Only when we spent enough money on current ones. :)

They could make it work by making it like the ship kit system. Make paint schemes in the packs made up of different sections. With the standard packs you would just get base colors while the more exotic paint packs such as synth would add designs to the pool which could use the colors from any other purchased pack.

Seconded!

We won't see it because everyone would be drawing giant... things they shouldn't be drawing. I know I would
I thought about that as well. My answer for that problem was simply not a free draw ability. Just different colors/shade/finishes. Maybe some premade included emblems/patterns that ensure the children at heart (I include myself in this so don't get excited) will behave.

I would find nothing more amusing than to fly a pink Clipper named the Pleasure Cruiser. Go look, I'll wait.

Maybe, as long as players couldn't get too detailed with their creations...

Phalluses and pot leaves everywhere.
