Custom signs from .png files

There has already been mention of custom signs but I would just like to speculate on how they could be made.

Many of the signs for some of the flat rides in the game appear to just be an extruded flat image. So maybe there will be a way of us drawing/Photoshopping our own signs, exporting them as .png (images with 'see through' backgrounds instead of white) and the game will extrude them and put them in the signs menu.

This would enable true custom signs. You could even do multiple extruded signs and layer them up to get really complex signs.

That all well and good being able to type on the signs, I think that's a great idea. But this doesn't allow you to make really visual signs like the ones in the game already. Just look at Rocktopus, 360 Power etc. You can't get them from just typing different fonts on a blank sign.
Importing .png images was just a way I could see this happening. Maybe there is a better way.

We will have a "custom text" tool soon. This will help us to wait UGC for a while [yesnod]

Both are confirmed (the "custom text tool" and "UGC import" which mean custom sign using texture/3D model).
We just don't know when, for both.

Yea UGC will go some way to achieving this. The only issue I have with that is that creating your own 3D model has quite a high entry level. (I know photoshopping a .png may have a high entry level too, but less than 3D modeling).

Huh ? Of course ... [big grin]

UGC mean a lot of things, not only 3D modeling.
It's about custom scenery of course, but also about custom billboards, custom signs, custom textures, custom sounds, custom music, custom scenerio, custom maps, mods, ...

This is why we don't need a simple "3D model importer" like RCT3 but a full tool to import and share our creations, whether we are 3D modellers, animators, designers, musicians, game designer, ... [yesnod][up]

Or person just wanting to enjoy your hard work.[rolleyes]

I can't wait to see what people come up with!
