Customizable and sortable bookmarks with tabs.

For the love, give us some better mapping tools.
I can see an update to get us some better map tools and this would be a great start.
Some suggestions are:
Like the ability to customize our bookmarks on maps.
Custom colors for bookmarks
The ability to create tabs to organize bookmarks.
The ability to sort alphabetically or numerically or other.
The ability to categorize our bookmarks.
The ability to add descriptions
Give us the ability to export our bookmarks to CSV or some kind as well as import them later.
Give us the options but allow us to be creative with the choices.

Thanks, I looked but I didn't find a definitive list.
I want a better description option, currently, the char limit is... limiting.

Then you need to be clear about what you want, if you just say you want desciptions the person whose job it is will look at it and say "that's already there" and won't do anything about it.

I checked the main menu, not there.

I checked a bookmark, not there.

People who work these kinds of things get vague requests all the time, trust me I know.
Analytical work is part of the job description for programmers.

The description is what you put in when you edit the bookmark, I can't help it if you just fill them with random letters!

Interesting remark. I don't see how your responses are helpful.
You say that descriptions are there, but when I ask where you reply that it's the fillable box when you edit the bookmark and remark that I use random letters.

The character limit for the box and the side list fixed size prevent this box from being used for descriptions, which can be lengthy. One can reasonably conclude the box and the list are not meant for descriptions. Descriptions from a programming perspective have a higher character limit than a one line box would permit. I'll grant you that one could use any combination of letters and numbers to give a description like effect, but this defeats the purpose of the box and side list in general which is meant as a quick jump list.

If you analyze the picture of the bookmark, you notice it's not "random letters".

Bookmarks could use some improvement. I edit the names, usually putting numbers & other symbols at the start to group & sort them (alphabetically), I use Squadron bookmarks to give a different colour but only for ones others in my squadron may find helpful (I'm the only one that uses them really).

And As OP for a suggestion thread, perhaps the best way to consider replies you feel are not helpful is to just be grateful they bump your thread. Updating bookmarks is quite a common proposal, so many contributors have well developed opinions already. Nobody's going to say they wouldn't benefit from improving, but it's been a long time since they were added & not much has changed so don't hold your breath

I've written my own app (PC only) that includes its own bookmark management, including organising into groups (with option to change the bookmark label in each group), color coding, adding notes, system generated notes on items discovered. You can access / navigate / filter it using voice commands or mouse clicks.
When you select a bookmark (voice/mouse) it will plot the course in game to that system.
The only drawback is you cant bookmark items within a system, only the system itself. Plus you have to set all your bookmarks up again from scratch (though with voice you can plot a course to each of your in game bookmarks and then just say "bookmark that location")

It does a lot of other stuff too, too much to list here.
I consider it in Alpha stage. Ideally i would like to get a license from Frontier to market it, but we will see, as no luck in getting a response when i have written in. I suspect use of the third party data sources may preclude that anyway. At the end of the day, I wrote it for myself, as it really improves immersion when in VR.

Talking of bookmarks, I would like it if in the nav panel, when I fly into a system, anything I have bookmarked in that system, is automatically listed at the top, no matter whether it is the closet or furthest from my point of entry. So for example, I was dropping some stuff of for the CG last night, because of all the FC's in the area, I'm scrolling up and down looking for the station in the list, it would be great if it just sat proud on top of the list if I have bookmarked that station.

My response isn't helpful because your response was not sensible. The description is the information you enter when you edit the bookmark, your description of the bookmark, you already know this so why are you asking where the descriptions are? Yes it's limited and not at as useful as it should be, and I have been one of the people asking for a better bookmark system for a long time. Many people have put in detailed explanations with pictures and layouts of what they would like to see, just saying "descriptions" conveys little to the devs and whatever they put in, if and when they update the bookmarks, probably won't resemble what you are asking for because, well, you haven't actually given any detailed explanation of what you want.

Feel your pain on this one. Definitely a well-needed qol item.

For the time being, one strategy I see people using is category prefixes, I usually number mine. 1: for home bases, 2: for material traders, etc.
