Customizable HUD's

Sure would be a nice feature to have over here on consoles...

Wondering if there has been any word if we might be seeing this feature at some point.

Not currently planned. It's a lot harder to do than it seems. Although, someone may come along and "solve" the problem, and we might see it in a future update. Someone at Fdev did something like that, figured out a problem one day allowing a feature to come that was previously unplanned. So someone might find a workaround one day for it. The HUD colour is tied in to a lot of stuff that would require a work-around to work with a basic slider/choose a color menu. Like for one example, if you change your HUD colour to anything but orange on PC by editing the files, everyone's avatar will have messed up skin tones. Make your HUD blue, and suddenly everyone is smurfs. It's all intertwined.

Hello Guys,

just an idea but maybe one that would not be so hard to implement. Why not preconfigure a certain number of HUD "themes" lets say 10 and let us choose the one we like most. Much like themes for text Editors. You have brought and will bring even more personalization to the game (with 2.2) but the one thing we see and use most our ships HUD is not customizable at all. And to be honest i really hate the orange theme but maybe thats just me ;-). I think themes might be a good Option until at one Point in time some smart Person solves the Problems with sliders. What do you think?

thanks and greetings from Germany

I wonder how hard it is. I don't need it, but it would be a nice feature. I liked that fact about Fallout 4, except that you couldn't change the power armor HUD color

With the way they built the system from the ground up, it's hard enough that it's not a planned feature. Everything was made in a certain way around that orange. Like, if you change your HUD to blue on the PC by editing the files, as a result, it will make other non orange things turn strange colors. By making your HUD blue, suddenly your shield bars are yellow instead of the original blue. Not sure how they manage that.

Yeah the orange HUD is pretty damn ugly. Baffles me as to why they would make that the ONLY option. Ever tried to relax in a room painted bright red?

Had the same problem with Assassin's Creed... Why all the bright white??? It's 2 am in the morning and I'm trying to relax on a videogame!!!!!!

I did read that part, and also remember seeing the videos on youtube about that. That is a weird way to do that though. Its like building a hot rod and wiring the ignition to pushing a hidden switch behind the rear plate, opening the driver door twice, hitting the unlock button on the passenger door three times, sitting in the seat, put the e-brake on halfway, put the parking lights on, turn ignition to ACC, set radio to preset 2, turn ignition off, and finally turn ignition to start. Was it necessary no, but it means everyone else has to go through a ton of hoops to change it.

The orange gets pretty tough on the eyes after a while. Unfortunately, I only have three alternatives. Set dashboard brightness to max for a      yellow HUD, or set my TV's color/R&G balance to grey, red, and green. Which also changes the color of everything else in the game. XD Setting my TV to full red turns the yellow inside the Annie's bridge to bright pink, lol.

They need to consider something. A large proportion of the population are colour blind to varying degrees, and to some it's completely unplayable

If you're implying PC has this native option, they don't. PC players can change an XML file which changes HUD colors but also changes other things that aren't suppose to be changed. So far neither PC or Xbox has this option as a native feature for the game.

I'm hoping some day someone at Frontier stumbles across a solution. I aaaallllyyy need a nice soothing solid blue hud like I see Obsidiant Ant using. Or maybe even a lighter color, like an ice blue.

I feel like devs see these threads and think "oh ANOTHER one of those threads about something literally everybody wants... Better ignore it. Hey Bob, hows that capital ship dock coming?"

It's not hard it's incredibly easy. There's far more work in the interface that's needed song side it than the actual colour changing bit. But work spent on properly supporting customisable hud colours is work not spent on new features, and since the pc crowd already have their wonky-but-serviceable homebrew method, there's little impetus to give development on this priority.

On the bright side, it was said somewhere that since both platforms share the code base now, if they did get round to it then it would be available in both pc and xbox.cplenty of time to practice breathholding ;)

I dont know why im no developer.

But there is something in the code they are using that makes it incredibly difficult to to change HUD colors in Elite Dangerous. They explained a few times already in other threads.

Its not going to happen.

Lmao Dusty said drop it. As many threads as I've seen I've got to say I agree. The Orange color really gets me sometimes. I'd love havin a teal or cyan hub. All in all just laughing at what dusty said so boldly.

Yeah, I know that. It's not legit, and has a few draw backs, I was just wondering if it had been talked about.

It's good to hear others opinions on this is all.

If you could choose a colour what would you want. I'd want it Amber coloured Google Amber and see if you'd like that colour
